N/A 15-05-2003, 08:24 PM NOKIA 3650 doesnt support 512 mb card. The maximum support is 256mb. Where is that stated? The MMC interface specs allow up to 4GB, as far as I'm aware (however, I wouldn't ever expect to actually see such things made until flash memory technology improves significantly from current state of things). For that matter, which manufacturer has a 512MB MMC card available (I don't see many 256MB cards for sale either)? GhostDog 15-05-2003, 08:55 PM I agree with you N/A,this is only hearsay talk,no official sorce has confirmed it or denied it yet. n3rdsupply 15-05-2003, 08:56 PM I just ordered one for around £60 off eBay. Dieter 20-05-2003, 01:52 PM Looks like your right... Just tried to move some images and got loads of errors. GhostDog 23-05-2003, 12:29 PM Go to your nearest NSC,they will do it for you. greendx 23-05-2003, 02:54 PM In the US it's not that simple. I called NokiaUSA and told them that I wanted to upgrade my firmware to 3.13 so that I can use the 256MB card. I was told that: a) they only pgrade firmware if there is something wrong with the phone so if I sent it in they would most likely see that there's nothing wrong with it and send it backk without flashing b) they told me that the phone only supports upto 128MB cards c) they told me that the phone does not support 3rd party MMC cards (that is BS because I know others use 128MB cards that are not made by Nokia but this is what I was told) GhostDog 23-05-2003, 06:37 PM Are you a club nokia member? If you are not, become one,its free, then they'll have to do the upgrade or just say that your phone crashes a lot. You should read some other cases of Nokia employees talking silly, there are a lot :) greendx 23-05-2003, 08:51 PM I am a club Nokia member, I already sent the phone out today. The turn around time is usually a little over a week so now I'll just wait. I_AM_DJ 23-05-2003, 11:54 PM Excellent Memory at an excellent price: http://www.crucial.com vicstone 25-05-2003, 03:31 PM Hi, I just spoke to the manager at Nokia USA Tech Support. There is no information on any new firmware for Nokia 3650 - no release date, no intention to release one. The current one is 2.54. They are aware of a new firmware scheduled to be released in Europe. However, Nokia USA will not support it and will not release it in U.S. As far as 128MB MMC cards. Nokia USA said they will not support them. I personally have RiDATA & Crucial 128MB MMC cards. They both work fine with my 3650 phone (one must format any MMC card before initial use). I tried 256MB MMC card by PDC - IT DID NOT WORK! The phone did not recognize it. I knew the card was good because I used it in another device. I use Video Recorder instead of RealOne to play my video files. It allows me to see a bigger screen than RealOne. PacketVideo suppose to utilize the entire screen during video playback. I don't have it since they don't offer a trial version. I also did the following test. I cut the 2-hour movie into 8 (eight) 15-minutes files and transmitted them via bluetooth to my Nokia 3650 128MB MMC card. During the transmission (about 40 minutes) all 8 files were converted into approximately 10MB segments occupying about 80MB. The quality of the movie was surprisingly good. I do not recommend transmission of entire movie to your phone since there is no way to pause your movie and continue later on once you close the Video Recorder program. I think this may help owners of Nokia 3650, especially in the U.S. greendx 27-05-2003, 05:45 AM Hi, I just spoke to the manager at Nokia USA Tech Support. I think this may help owners of Nokia 3650, especially in the U.S. See, and I was told something totally different by Nokia USA. I was told that they do in fact have a newer firmware then 2.54 but like I said before they will not flash a phone unless there is a problem with it. Also I was told that Nokia only supports upto 128MB MMC's and that they do not support non Nokia MMC's. Now that last statement either means that Nokia plans to make 128MB MMC's or that they are contradicting themselves by saying that they do not support non-Nokia MMC while not making 128MB MMC's. vicstone 27-05-2003, 02:33 PM To greendx, I don't know what to tell you about the new firmware. I called nokia toll free number, pushed a few numbers to get to customer service, asked to for tech support, got transferred there and asked for a manager. The man I spoke with told me, that there would be NO new firmware in the USA anytime soon. He also told me they would not upgrade to the current 2.54 firmware unless there was a problem with the phone (but you could always use an excuse posted by GhostDog). He also said they don't support any NON-Nokia MMC cards (I personally have two 128MB MMC cards, Crucial & RiData, and I can confirm that they both work). Good luck! GhostDog 27-05-2003, 03:20 PM Well,if they are not supported doesn't mean that they will not work,it only means that if something goes wrong they can tell you to buzz off. greendx 04-06-2003, 03:08 AM To greendx, I don't know what to tell you about the new firmware. They didn't flash my phone, they said in a note that came with my phone that 2.54 is the latest fw. I figured that they wouldn't flash my phone. I only sent it in in hopes of getting it flashed because I was told by the csr that they did have the newer firmware. I know that newer firmware does exist but if I knew that Nokia USA didn't have it I would have never sent them my phone. AndyR 19-06-2004, 01:14 AM Got my phone back from Nokia USA. A friend of mine sent his for firmware update and he got it back after a month in same condition, and the morons didn't even know what "flashing it" meant. Sure that was Nokia Mexico, but hey. Try a friend with a flashing kit or even the ones on ebay. You can get 4.xx firmware is everything works fine. I'm currently running 3.16(?) and works pretty good and only took 30mins of my time. G'luck. Osvaldo 25-06-2004, 12:07 AM Checking if anyone knows if its compatible with 256Mb mmc cards. I didnt even know they existed until I found them on ebay a few mins ago. My 3650 is with a 256MB MMC card from Transcend and I read what you wrote that it would be slower. Well I changed the MMC cards and installed the new 256MB card and it as started faster. And I have no problem what so ever.... Misanthrope 14-07-2004, 05:10 AM I have 3.16, will i be fine ( no slowdowns or anything) with a 256 or should i use a 128 instead? jhsieh 16-07-2004, 02:45 AM Good info, thanks everyone.... In regards to the question about 4GB MMC cards... don't discount the possibility! With stacking technologies it's obtainable! We in fact have 2GB MMC card prototypes undergoing testing right now.... Well I guess this is irrelevant to you guys since you're looking at 256MB cards, but I saw the post so I thought I would answer. -Jeff jwh@us.atpinc.com garcons50 21-07-2004, 12:55 AM Looks like you guys have tried 256Mb and it works fine. I just ordered a 512Mb MMC frm Ebay and was wondering now if it would work or no. Would the phone become absolutely slow, or still managable? garcons50 28-07-2004, 12:57 AM I used a 512MB MMC on my 3650, and the phone was relatively slow, but it does support it. No problems at all. Woutput 08-08-2004, 08:39 AM I used a 512MB MMC on my 3650, and the phone was relatively slow, but it does support it. No problems at all. And which version firmware do you have? Grtz. Wouter P.s. I have v2.50 and I think about buying 256MB MMC garcons50 09-08-2004, 04:04 AM v2.50 too !!! Guest576 15-12-2004, 02:09 AM I used a 512MB MMC on my 3650, and the phone was relatively slow, but it does support it. No problems at all. Well, i was about to order a KingMax 1 GB MMC for my 3650 for a really good price, something around 25% more in comparison with a 256MB one. But now I read your comment about the slow down. Would a 1 GB MMC make it slow down even more??? People all around have used this same 1 GB MMC from Kingmax in N-Gage and N-GageQD flawlessly... having no problems at all. Would it make anything bad in my N3650?? Like slowing down or even not working? What do you thing people?? I'm just a step from buying it.... |
