SAbz911 15-10-2003, 04:10 PM i finally got a full film on me fone!
using the following settings i converted 45 mins of films into a 25mb clip. So ive got one half of the film on the floboard memory card the other half on my 32mb card.
using helix producer plus vr9 i used the following settings (these are stolen from another thread):
Audio Mode: Music
Video Mode: Normal Motion Video
Real 8 Codec (or the phone will not read it)
Size: 176x144
2-pass normally off (for speed)
Maintain ratio/High quality resize/High Quality audio resampling
Then I created a new audience template called 3650 with these settings:
For A/V encoding:
Constant bit rate: 80Kbps
Frames: 20 fps (This equates to roughly every other frame of video)
Voice codec: 16Kbps voice (G2, RA8)
Music: 16Kbps
For audio only encoding:
didnt change it
depending on how loud the film is i increased the audio gain in settings.
i then selected the movie file directly off one of my vcd's (F: --> MPEGAV --> AVSEQ01)
pressed encode and 20 mins later, voila!
The video and audio quality is fantastic!
Hopefully this will come in use for someone else!

GhostDog 16-10-2003, 09:49 AM Nice!
OFF topic:What's is the capacity of the MMC card that comes with the N-Gage?16 or 32 MB?
SAbz911 16-10-2003, 09:56 AM 32mb but its got the flo board game on it, but u can take it off.

Again, copyrighted material, no links please, I have a feeling a P2P program will shed some light on the matter though.
SAbz911 16-10-2003, 02:06 PM most of my simpsons eps and films are ripped from my dvds and vcds.

DaiMonde 16-10-2003, 02:10 PM sorry j2theIZZO, thought i was on dodgy ground !
not that i know what a p2p is...honest.
GhostDog 16-10-2003, 03:13 PM p2p apps: Napster,Kazaa,eMule,eDonkey,Morpheus,WinMX.
SAbz911 16-10-2003, 10:24 PM A few people said they had a few problems getting the settings to work. So ive made a step by step guide, during my boring english lesson.
hopefully this will help.

KROSS 16-10-2003, 11:59 PM I have loads of simpsons episodes on dvd so how would I go about changing the vob's into rm.
SAbz911 17-10-2003, 12:17 AM Heya Kross, Use something like FlaskMPEG to encode the vob files into avi. then follow the intructions above to convert it to .rm .
Slightly off topic but have i seen your name on the ngage arena forum?

chewyy01 17-10-2003, 02:43 AM Can I use that or do I need the Plus version. Basic is Free and Plus is $200
SAbz911 17-10-2003, 11:06 AM Unfortunately only half the settings work in the basic version, so yea you do need the plus version.
SAbz
GreenLantern 19-10-2003, 04:01 PM yea ... true.. i d/l basic & it doesn't allow to encode to Real8 code... :(
SAbz911 21-10-2003, 05:49 PM There are other programs and settings you can use to convert them into other file types, that are of similar quality, and most of the programs used are freeware or trialware.
Ill write another step by step for them and post them later.

kjeld 24-10-2003, 01:30 PM is thre any way you can watch movies fullscreen?
GhostDog 25-10-2003, 12:21 PM Try PvPlayer from www.pv.com
jamie 29-10-2003, 05:23 PM Cheers for the help i will give it a go
onari 02-11-2003, 08:50 PM I don't have a N-Gage yet, but I already got the program and converted videos with it.
If I convert a widescreen movie to Real Media-format, does N-Gage automatically add the black boxes to top and bottom of the video? (Width is 176 px and height is something)
Or do I have to make everything exactly 176x144 px? (The video would be stretched)
SAbz911 02-11-2003, 09:23 PM Just keep everything as 176x144 . This will unfortuantely mean ur film will have black boxes, top and bottom. The only way to get rid of them is by using TMPEGenc or something similar, and resize the film as normal screen rather than widescreen.
My film in the screenshot was in widescreen.

symbiamaniac 03-11-2003, 05:32 AM hi guys, to make life super easy for everybody i already posted detailed instructions on how to encode video for your ngage without having to worry about resolution settings, fps, etc a day or 2 ago....best of all, i listed 2 free apps which pretty much do all the guess work for you. i even posted a short film i encoded for everybody to watch and enjoy.
-peace ;)
hornma 04-11-2003, 01:04 PM From playing around with helix and a few QT trailers I reckon the best combination of fps and bit rate seems to be :
fps 1/2 whatever it was originally encoded with (so it will be either 12 or 15 fps)
100 kps..
With these settings it does not seem to skip frames or get delayed.. and the file sizes are not much different to those generated with 20fps and 80 kps.
Matt
KROSS 04-11-2003, 03:48 PM Yea, ive been on the n-gage arena boards.
omegaman 07-11-2003, 11:48 PM very cool, i will be trying this soon... movies on my gage...awesome.
sco2001 14-11-2003, 07:42 AM you can also download the optimal settings for phones, off of somewhere. I'll post it when i find it.
BUNKER 24-11-2003, 06:15 PM This is a stupid question but how do you get flo boarding off of the memory card
GhostDog 24-11-2003, 11:12 PM Copy then Paste :p
crazyfun 26-11-2003, 05:18 PM what format can ngage play?.3gp of coz, and rm?
why i cant play the matrix.rm which i downloaded from a yahoo group. it says invalid format..
SAbz911 26-11-2003, 11:48 PM Hey i think i got the same film, but i havent had chance to check it yet. You sure u hav all the parts? the one i have has 10 parts to it.
Also check to make sure all the settings are as they shud be. Open it in realone player and go to file properties or something like that, and itll tell ya the frame rate , bitrate etc.
The one ive got did say it was for the 3650, not sure if theres a difference, so maybe that the reason it wont work.
racingboy 27-11-2003, 03:56 PM i have some mp4 files, how can i convert them to rm files?
thanks
BUNKER 29-11-2003, 12:28 AM i just wanna ask is their problems with the ngage as i recently went to virgin megastore to try it out but for some reason it was switched off and when i asked the assistant to turn it on he did but even he couldn't get it working to play a game all that appeared on screen was a symbol like the one that appears when it is charging and there were five ngages on display all with this symbol i then asked the assistant about this problem and he says they were all faulty is this true or is there a reason for this and could you explain as i am wanting an ngage for christmas and dont want it being a problem through the holidays.
drager 29-11-2003, 01:54 AM i don`t have any problem like that...
BUNKER 29-11-2003, 02:00 PM maybe it just had no battery life left but because i didnt get to try it should i still invest in getting one
drager 29-11-2003, 05:28 PM i think you should get one:) n-gage is a great device i think:) i love my n-gage more than any phone i had :)
SAbz911 30-11-2003, 01:18 AM More likely the assistant was being an arse and refusing to show you the phone. The phone's amazing and has no major faults, as far as ive found, and is well worth getting!
djxyas 30-11-2003, 06:09 AM Ok i am asking the professional media player for the n-gage having a capability of adjusting the following.
HUE
SATURATION
BRIGHTNESS
CONTRAST
---------------
BASS
TREBBLE
LEVEL (L + R)
I can compromise with audio - No big deal, BUT please let me know if any player has a capability to adjust colors for the movie which we are watching, because in day light while watching in a movie .............. you know what I mean ..........

crazyfun 01-12-2003, 07:45 PM how to make .rmvb movie to play on the ngage?
use Helix Producer? seems that rmvb is a invalid format to convert.
SAbz911 01-12-2003, 11:15 PM Never tried a .rmvb file meself. You could try renaming the file name to .rm. if that dont work then try using the .rm editor program that comes with helix, youll probably be able to convert it to .rm.
djxyas 07-12-2003, 06:04 AM Hi
if possible any body can post a little movie of any film 1 mb, so i can download in my n-gage or view it in my PC. (movie with subtitles will be appreciated). or PM me the link..........
This is just to see how the conversions you have made and how it looks in n-gage and give details about conversion in PC.
thanks

BUNKER 13-12-2003, 08:20 PM I RECENTLY CONVERTED A SIMPSONS EPISODE WITH HELIX PRODUCER PLUS AND TRIED IT IN MY NGAGE IT WORKED ON REAL ONE PLAYER LIKE A CHARM BUT THE PROBLEM IS AFTER ABOUT 2 MINUTES OF THE VIDEO PLAYING IT STOPS I DONT KNOW THE REASON FOR THIS AS I TRIED PLAYING THE CLIP ON REAL ONE PLAYER ON MY COMPUTER AND IT PLAYS THE WHOLE EPISODE DOES ANY ONE KNOW THE REASON FOR THIS.
bigkells 15-12-2003, 12:25 PM @SAbz911, are the settings the same for converting video files for the 6600?
SAbz911 15-12-2003, 01:45 PM @bunker
there must be an error in the video you converted. Or make sure there arent any other apps open at the same time
@bigkells
Yea the settings shud be the same, except possibly the screen size, (not sure if its any bigger).
bigkells 15-12-2003, 01:54 PM I gave it a go with a small mpeg clip, I will have a toy around with it (the programme that is) when I get home today!
:D
SAbz911 15-12-2003, 02:52 PM Tell us if any of the settings require changing for the 6600, and ill change the guide accordingly :D
cuddlers89 15-12-2003, 03:49 PM do you know anywhere to get the helix thing, i cant really afford £200 to spend on it, does the deomo version work as well?
SAbz911 15-12-2003, 08:50 PM Nope the basic version doesnt allow you to convert to real media 8 which is necessary. Use Nokia multimedia converter instead.
GhostDog 16-12-2003, 06:32 PM Has anyone tried this? http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18639 It sounds very promising.
SAbz911 16-12-2003, 06:52 PM Sounds promising! Hopefully not as expensive as Helix Producer!
willbrady 16-12-2003, 08:57 PM Been playing with the latest Helix for a few mins..
Probably a little to early for me to comment but...
Still no built in playlist option?
Having to open a WAP page to select content will serverly restrict the commercial aspect of real.
Plus the MP3 functionality is good, with good quality playback - but again, no playlist means having to get your phone out of your pocket to select the next track!
Unless I've missed something - only played with it for 10 mins so far ;)
I'll report back tommorrow :)

Napier 17-12-2003, 06:23 AM The Nokia Media Converter is very simple to use... reliable... and free!
GhostDog 17-12-2003, 02:32 PM The Nokia Media Converter doesn't have much seting to paly with and also then end videos are low quality.
What about www.mobiclip.com .It is reported that the quality is awesome on the p800,anyone tested it on Series 60?I would've but the 20 MB convertor is too much for my 33600.
SAbz911 17-12-2003, 03:57 PM Ive tested it and it the quality is amazing, only problem is it takes ages to convert one vid, and the average file size is 3 types larger than .rm.
Im still sticking with helix meself.
RZart 17-12-2003, 06:14 PM Oohh my god...it plays 'em movies fullscreen!!!
