View Full Version : Agile messenger problems...
PaulJ26 16-08-2004, 05:16 PM I can't seem to establish a connection to msn with Agile messenger. My network is Vodafone UK. I'm trying to connect using 'vodafone internet GPRS' as my access point. I have full access to the internet via Opera so I'm not sure why this isn't working?!
Has anyone else had any problems using agile messenger on the 7610?
(messenger vers = 6600/7610, downloaded via their website.)
Any help is much appreciated, ta.

I know this is kinda a seperate issue, but did you have opera on ya phone on the MMC? I haven't and it appears I would have to buy the darn thing to get it! Can I get it for free from Orange (who I am with) somehow ... Muh. I dont like buying opera when it will only give a valid registration code for my IMEI number. Boo hoo.

Opera came pre-installed to the phone with my 7610, which I thought was quite nice of Vodafone. :)
The Herb 18-08-2004, 12:14 PM I had the same issue with my 7610 on Orange - where was Opera? in fact where was Kodak as well??
Anyway, I'm not sure having not used Opera before, but I have a feeling that both the "web" application on the menu and "orange world" may in fact be Opera. Can any 7610 users on Orange UK confirm this?
Michael25 18-08-2004, 01:02 PM I downloaded the same version of agile messenger and here its working fine (also on a 7610)
But i'm not using it with GPRS. i'm just using a dial-up account of my local ISP (cheaper for me)
And for the Opera question... It was preinstalled on my phone.

Good grief! You are right - I have changed settings from Orange GPRS WAP to Orange Internet and I was browsing the true internet. Nice one! Cheers for that. Although its definately modified as the nice HASH and # keys dont do what they do in opera, least they don't seem to.
ok.. with agile messenger, you cant use gprs with it...you have to use dial up...and with opera.. you can use gprs...all you have to do is go into the opera settings and add your ip address, and your proxy port number..eg ..for o2 the ip is 193.113.200.195 and the proxy port is 8080..using opera with gprs is excellent..i find it fast, and it doesnt hang up unlike dial up.. :D
PaulJ26 20-08-2004, 10:11 PM ok.. with agile messenger, you cant use gprs with it...you have to use dial up...
But why not? Using dialup would cost a fortune as I like to leave it running, sometimes the whole day. I've used Agile messenger on an n-gage and 6600 with GPRS, I don't understand why it doesn't work with the 7610?! I downloaded a demo of shape's IM+ messenger, and that worked fine with GPRS. I'm just not prepared to pay the $30. :)
foshdafosh 16-09-2004, 08:25 AM Was a solution ever found to this problem?
I've got a 6600 with Agile Messenger 3 on Vodafone UK and I can't use MSN either.
ICQ and Yahoo work fine though!
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Pete

prissy 11-10-2004, 12:39 AM I had been able to connect MSN using Agile Messenger on my P900 through GPRS for a long time until two months ago. I don't rather know why that it just stopped connecting. Yahoo and ICQ works fine though. Someone from other mailing list suggested incompatible .NET passport thing with agile. I will try to change my MSN .net setting to see if there is any help.
foshdafosh 11-10-2004, 07:24 AM Hi there Prissy,
What network are you on out of interest?
Cheers,
Pete
Springheeledjac 11-10-2004, 08:37 PM I connect with Agile messenger using GPRS on O2 network no problem. My wife is on Vodafone and she has not been able to connect yet.
foshdafosh 12-10-2004, 08:59 AM Says it all really..
Wonder if a quick e-mail to Vodafone would help. After all, I'd be spending more money if it worked!
davimurp 12-10-2004, 12:18 PM As far as I know, AgileMessenger requires a GPRS connection, rather than a WAP connection, so if it's not working check your connections. I'm running it without any problems, connecting to AOL and MSN simultaneously. I'm no good for network help though, non-uk.
SEVENTYSIXTEN 13-10-2004, 08:01 PM just wondering, does agile messenger charge only for initial connection or for time connected?
foshdafosh 14-10-2004, 07:30 AM Agile Messenger is free, it's the connection that costs.
So it depends how you use it, I think you can only use it with GPRS, which means you'll be paying for the amount of data you send.
It's all up to your network really!
bulgari 16-10-2004, 12:46 PM Got the same problems with Agile Messenger on my 7610.
I can connect fine to Yahoo and AOL but it fails every time with MSN. The connection is running over GPRS on the Vodafone network and I've double-checked usernames and passwords but looks like there's something else that's causing the problem.
Using Agile Messenger 3.0 with an update.
The "About" dialog gives me: v. AM-NOKIA6600-21
Drifter 16-11-2004, 09:52 PM I have a 6600 and Vodafone Dutch network. And i also have problems with Agile messenger 2 and 3. It says failed, failed... :( , i am jusing Vodafone live! (gprs)
foshdafosh 17-11-2004, 09:29 AM I keep meaning to ask Vodafone about this but to be honest I'm trying to save money on my bill at the moment so it's kind of helping that it doesn't work!!
Nyxmorph 17-11-2004, 10:46 AM You have to ring up Vodafone and get them to turn off 'Content Control'. This allows you to view lots of, erm, stuff, and apparently also then allows MSN through agile.
Or so I have heard.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Nyx.
foshdafosh 17-11-2004, 10:48 AM Oh I see! Well if I get around to it I'll try that and see how it goes.
Even though I'll feel like a right monkey asking to see the, erm, stuff!
Thanks for the suggestion.
saabuldin 27-11-2004, 09:28 PM ok.. with agile messenger, you cant use gprs with it...you have to use dial up...and with opera.. you can use gprs...all you have to do is go into the opera settings and add your ip address, and your proxy port number..eg ..for o2 the ip is 193.113.200.195 and the proxy port is 8080..using opera with gprs is excellent..i find it fast, and it doesnt hang up unlike dial up.. :D
I thought you can only use Agile Messenger or Opera if you got mobile internet settings, (not GPRS or WAP) but mobile internet settings. o2 pay and go does not support mobile internet settings, only o2 pay monthly.
Any one here got Agile Messenger working on o2 pay and go.
jtavares 14-12-2004, 07:38 PM "MSN always requires port 1863 to be open."
(From Agile Messenger homepage)..
If your Access Point uses any proxy.. You'll not have port 1863 open..
If you have just a direct GPRS connection, it will work ..
niQue 15-12-2004, 03:25 PM Hmm... feelin like a real n00b... but.. how do I open port 1863 on my Nokia 6600?
foshdafosh 17-12-2004, 10:35 AM Hmm... feelin like a real n00b... but.. how do I open port 1863 on my Nokia 6600?
Well just to make you feel better, I'd like to know as well!
At least more than one person is quite simple! :D
jtavares 06-01-2005, 05:01 PM I realized that Agile Messenger does not work with an Access Point that uses Proxy...
I think because by using a proxy you'll not have port 1863 open to the outside world..
It would be great if Agile Messenger supported proxies...
James761 10-01-2005, 04:45 PM i have o2 pay as you go and have the full www internet- and its free! just cant establish a c conection with agile messenger??!! i really want msn on my phone.
........................
zainman 10-01-2005, 04:50 PM maybe an alternative like X-messenger, Turbo MSN, E-Msn? something must be possible.. i use agile :p
zainman 13-01-2005, 02:58 PM i cant connect to ICQ with my agile messenger, i used to before but now i cant :s
James761 08-02-2005, 06:58 PM GO INTO:
SETTINGS>CONNECTION>ACCESS POINTS, CHOOSE ACCESS PIN E.G.
02 WAP GPRS> OPTIONS> ADVANCED SETTINGS> THERE IT IS!!
hope this helps
