Hi,

I understand that the 7610 doesn't do stereo and I'm not really worried about that as I wasn't planning on using it as an MP3 player. However, I would like to be able to watch video clips whilst using some headphones. I nabbed a pair of pop-port phones which came from a 7250 and I get sound out of one ear but also out of the speaker, so that seems a dead end?

The ideal situation would be to get mono sound out of each ear on a set of headphones but if this is not possible i would settle for proper mono. Additionally is there any pop-port device that will let me use my own headphones with the 7610 or will I have to buy a nokia unit?

Hi,

The 7610 does produce stereo sound. you need the Nokia HS-3 headset. plenty on eBay.

I don't think the HS-3 will work, look at this link (http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/427605-1.html). I know that the HDS-3 definately does not work, and the mod is near impossible to do unless you are an electrial genius.

What I have managed to do was to get a Pop-Port block adapter from Mobile Fun (http://www.mobilefun.co.uk). I tested this with universal 2.5mm stereo headsets, which was still only giving audio through one ear. I then got an N-Gage QD Dual Mono Headset HS-7, which when pushed right in did not work at all. I then pulled it out half way, and dual mono in both ear buds. So some elastic bands and black tape later and I have my headset.

Damn, why can't Nokia just make one for us? There is obviously a market for it if you look aroung the net a bit.

The HS3 don't work and you even get a error message when you connect them

I can confirm that these headphone DO NOT work with the 7610. I have tested the 7610 with the HDS-3 and the HS-3 headphones with the same result; you get sound out of one earbud and the phone's speaker at the same time (sort of defeats the object). You also get a message when you plug the headphones in saying 'enhanchment not supported'. Fortunatly I didn't buy either of the sets of earphones just borrowed them. I suggest you test your theories before recommending people splash out £15 on a pair or earphones that wont work with their mobile.
