View Full Version : 9500 is out
RickyTec 16-11-2004, 02:30 AM I bought my 9500 last saturday on a megastore in Lisbon, called FNAC (I think they have it in other countries) priced 743€ sim free.
I believe they'll be available in other places real soon. :D
RickyTec 16-11-2004, 05:43 AM Forgot to send the link:
http://www.fnac.pt/pesquisa.aspx?op=ps&catalogo=&str=9500&pag=1
Delivery in 24h, but the site is in Portuguese...
Delta737 16-11-2004, 07:28 AM Cool! Congrats!
This is good news. If you could share some of your thoughts with us, that would be great! :D
caioduilio2003 16-11-2004, 09:27 AM could you say me wich language are pre-installed in the device ?
upponalle 16-11-2004, 10:05 AM You are a lucky man... :) When you had some time, give us some feedback. How stable is the software?
Cheers,

Cheers,
Yeah, report on how it works, please. Very good news. I spent Friday evening trying to hunt down an 9500 in the Bullring in Birmingham... no luck :(
RickyTec 17-11-2004, 02:13 AM Sorry for the delay, but I´ve been busy ;)
The 9500 cames with Portuguese language installed and with a portuguese QWERTY keyboard. I think it has also Spanish option.
Software is very stable (it's my first communicator, I had a P800 and the so much better the OS). The screen, specially the PDA side, is very good and surfing in the net is excelent. You simply can't compare it with UIQ devices.
The camera is better than the P800 and 7650 and it has 2x digital zoom witch is easy to use.
The conection with the PC using cable is good, but IR gave me some problems... though you really don't need it because USB 2.0 is very fast.
The mp3 player is simply to use, you have 80mb free, but it has the problem that all actions have to be done with the phone open. Maybe someone create a mp3 software to use on the phone side, like we have in UIQ devices.
The battery lefe is a 1300mh, witch is good but if you use it a lot (like I am) it won't last two days.
Didn't tried WLAN yet. Here in Açores we don't have it. I'll check it out on Friday at the airport!!!!
So far no bugs (except the IR that I have to spend more time to verify) so I'm very glad with it.
As expected Nokia scores high with 9500.
Delta737 17-11-2004, 07:06 AM Thanks for that! But if you don't use it a lot, don't use wifi and still the battery won't last 2 days: that doesn't sound good :o
P.S. Don't ever expect an mp3 player on the front side, no apps can be installed there (unless Nokia decides to offer it in a software upgrade or something)
RickyTec 17-11-2004, 07:23 AM ...
P.S. Don't ever expect an mp3 player on the front side, no apps can be installed there (unless Nokia decides to offer it in a software upgrade or something)
Yup, you´re right. Forgot that you don't have the folder aplications on the phone side. But it is a 40 series so let's hope that a new firmware can resolve the question!
I waited almost 4 month for the P800 - got it in March 2003 - but it worth it because it was really the first smartphone ever with touchscreen, memory card and good OS.
Now I waited another 4 month (why do they do this to us?) for 9500 but let me tell you that is the best all-in-one ever made. Okay, it's my first comminicator but I think it will impress anyone... :D
upponalle 17-11-2004, 09:30 AM I heard about the IR challenges before, I think there even is something mentioned in some other thread here in the forum. The battery time really seems to be short. I really used my 9210 heavily and will do the same once I get hold my 9500 (nope no commitment yet, I might still just get a 9300 :) ) WLAN usage will definitely not increase the battery time...
Let us know how it goes, when you will test it on Friday.
jazzy1 17-11-2004, 10:07 AM can u post some pictures of the package.(box)
Raven 17-11-2004, 02:31 PM But if you don't use it a lot, don't use wifi and still the battery won't last 2 days: that doesn't sound good :o
I don't believe that's what he said. I doubt he's had any time to check what the battery is like with average use.
And according to several other lucky 9500 owners, the battery life is excellent.
Obviously when you first get it, you can't stop playing with it. But when the "new car smell" wears off and your usage becomes more average, I'm sure the battery life will be more than sufficient.

quite agree with u.
TheJoker 17-11-2004, 04:54 PM As long as the thingeee can stand a good days bashing then I'll be very happy. What I mean is that I'll need to sleep too, and I usually sleep near a power-socket - in other words, I can charge the phone when I sleep.
What I don't like is when the gadget gives up half way through the day - like my ex-iPaq did... pile'ocrp bells n whistles machine...
By "a good days bashing" I guess that I would not be happy using the 9500 for more than 8h per day - actively - it'll probably be near me and idling for my full waking hours... :D

Regarding the battery life, in my first time i had to charge it after 2 days... but I forgot to tell that I listened to mp3 music for several hours. And I used a lot of aplications, so 2 days for this king of use isn't that bad (better than P800).
Last time I charged it yesterday at lunch, listen to some music (1 or 2 hours) today and use the phone several times, and the battery is half way.
Conclusion: the battery life is more than OK, is very good.
Here goes the pictures of the box and acessories (taken with 9500) for you jazzy.

 I mis-read his post. The battery-life doesn't seem to be that bad :top:
Thanks for the additional info RickTec! The pic quality seem to be as bad as any VGA cam, but I wasn't really expecting to see perfect quality anyway.
It's a shame they don't provide a stereo headset with such a high-end phone...
jazzy1 18-11-2004, 07:03 AM Thanks mate.
RickyTec 18-11-2004, 07:43 PM Does anyone knows if there are stereo phone using bluetooth?
As Delta737 said the phones that cames with 9500 are mono...
It would be great to have stereo using bluetooth, but I can't found a single one in the market.
Stereo audio over Bluetooth requires support for the A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile). The 9500 doesn't have A2DP built-in, as far as I'm aware. You'd need to find an A2DP Bluetooth headset and the required software/drivers as well, at least.
jazzy1 19-11-2004, 08:52 AM hi rickytec,
can u tell abt the speaker output it's mono or stereo????
when play mp3 songs sounds would be great or average???
>THANKS IN ADVANCE<
One speaker = one output channel = no real stereo sound (but two stereo channels can, of course, be mixed and output through the single channel/speaker).
Two speakers = can be mono or stereo, but if the output is stereo, the speakers have to be at a distance that is at least as wide as the distance between your ears to detect the stereo effect (a stereo headset will do, too).
Speaker quality has nothing to do with whether the sound is mono or stereo, except that good quality sound sounds better on good speakers than bad´ones, of course.
And, as far as I know, the 9500 only has one speaker.
jazzy1 19-11-2004, 12:01 PM hi guys i just received my 9500

RickyTec, Jazzy1 how about you?
Tomahawk 20-11-2004, 04:48 PM There was no MMC in my Nokia package. I also got a free 128 MB MMC thrown in with my 9500 by Expansys but i think they are only do this for people who pre-ordered.
jazzy1 21-11-2004, 06:25 AM hi guys
i have also 128 mb free mcc.
Vicky 21-11-2004, 06:54 AM Could anyone please tell me wht is containing in the Salkes package.
I found everything like but not the leather cover.
Please tell me wht u get with Nokia 9500.
RickyTec 21-11-2004, 09:12 PM I didn't get the MMC card... neither the leather case
I ordered already a 929 Nokia case.
Regarding the MMC card I want a 1gb, so I think I'll wait for it. ;)
About the sound of 9500, the quality is very good (more and less like P800).
upponalle 21-11-2004, 09:58 PM I don't know what Nokia is thinking. I was told at the Nokia Mobility Conference that the sales package for the 9500 will not contain any MMC, but the 9300 package will have a 128 MB MMC. This seems to be confirmed now. :( Earlier this year Nokia still said that there will be a MMC in the sales package. :frown: I think I even posted it here.
So I save my old 64 MC MMCs for now and then will possibily get 1 GB MMC. :D
I read about the leather case as well from some where.
jazzy1 22-11-2004, 06:58 AM I didn't get the MMC card... neither the leather case
