What, exactly, are you trying to install (application name, version and file name)? Has it been made for your phone (or Series 60 1.2 in general)? If not (e.g., if it has requires a newer release of Series 60 than what your phone is based on), then the message is telling that (albeit it could be clearer).

i think you are trying to install non series 60 platform software. the only software that will install are files with .SIS extension (example.sis) also .jar and .jad apart from these all others will not be of use to you.
