Hi there i bought a brand new nokia 6680 off ebay at £132 but it is locked to 3.

Does anyone know if a o2 chip will work in it, i know that vodaphone normally allow o2 chips.

The phone is due to arrive in 2 days so i cant test it.

If it does no accept it does anyone know if it can be unlocked and if not is there a rough date as to when software is available to unlock it?

Otherwise i will see if anyone wants to swap it for a o2 compatible one and i will add some cash on top.

Kind regards

you will have to go flash it at a phone shop, or nokia care center

I got mine flashed in the nokia service centre in Richmond. I am not sure all service centres will do it. But there is no harm in your asking the carphone warehouse branch in your area. The phone can only be unlocked via the networks. ie three, t-mobile etc. There is no unlocking code. And i have no idea how long we will wait as the 6630 was released last year December and still there is no unlocking code for it. Good Luck.

back to square 1 again, rung back the place i mentioned above and now they say flashing it will not unlock it (at least the way they do it), apparently they have no authorisation from nokia to do it.

So im stuffed

2 nokia service centres have told me that flashing the phone will not unlock it, is that true?

I was given a example as to what would happen.... sau i got it unlocked then developed a problem and needed to get it flashed, once it was flashed it would go back to being locked.Basically they said it don't work like that, or do they have to say that?

Kind regards

no they are correct.

Flashing it will only change the firmware. It WILL NOT unlock it.

As has been mentioned in earlier replies, the only way to unlock it is to get an unlock code from 3. They charge £115 for this, plus they will only provide it to the original owner whose name the phone is registered in.
