i may be being really thick this time, but how the hell do you browse the tones and maybe send the odd one to friends?? the ones i've uploaded are accessible but can't find the ones on the phone at all.

You will have problems forwarding ringtones because they are considered protected content. I believe this is the OMA Forward Lock DRM at work.
