Perhaps you should look at the settings on your current profile?

I have checked the setting on the profile, I have also tried using other profiles, it doesnt alert for BB email or Normal internet email, is this a bug in the software?

I'm about to get an E61 tomorrow, I'll try and fiddle about with it and see if I can replicate the problem.

Try changing your profile's E-mail alert tone to a different tone from the default one (for example email alert2.aac).

done that... I work in IT so as far as I can see I have exhausted all the default options, also called Nokia today and raised a case with them, email alert doesnt seem to work for normal pop3/smtp either.

That sounds like you have a faulty unit then if it doesn't work in POP3. It works fine for me, I hear the sound every time.

Try returning it for repair or replace under the terms of the warranty.

I was wondering about the same thing, because I couldn't get any notification for new e-mail either. However, today I discovered a little setting that I somehow must have missed before... Just go to the e-mail account you want to be alerted of new mail and select Options - E-mail settings - User settings - New e-mail alerts - On.

I've been really annoyed previously because the blinking light didn't seem to want to work all the time, and I was especially annoyed that I didn't get any visual notification of new mail for every account on screen. Now I get the blinking light, a little box popping up on the screen telling me I have new mail AND sound. Beautiful. :)

When you hit the mail button next to the joystick you are taken to your default mailbox right. Then just press the left soft-key (Options) and scroll down the list till you get to E-mail settings.

You can also just go to Messaging - Options - Settings - E-mail - your e-mail account - User settings - New e-mail alerts - On.

Ok so I found where you were referring to, this is switched on for POP email, there is no such option for Blackberry which is what I was asking about on my First post. Ironically I think installing the Blackberry and setting it as the default mail option has in fact set the phone to not alert for incoming mail type messages, which is a bit of a pain to be honest, I have raised a case with Nokia.

I have the same problem with IMAP email and do not have BB so I don't think it is BB causing the problem. Nokia claim that the problem only affects Vodafone customers.

That would be Vodafones dodgy build of the symbian OS then  Is there a default build that can be re-flashed over the Vodafone rubbish?

I have an E61 from Vodafone using Mail for Exchange and have exactly the same problem.
Does anyone know if this affects all Nokia E-Series Vodafone devices?
Thanks

Does anyone have a solution to this. I am about to order an E61 from Vodafone, but I really need an audible email alert.

I returned my E61 to Vodafone last week as they did not have a clue about solving this problem. I am thinking about getting a sim-free E61.

Could this company help?

http://www.fonefunshop.co.uk/Unlocking/debrand.htm

They claim to be able to unbrand the E61.
