My old 9210 has flight mode, wheras my new E70 has an 'offline mode'. Is this the same thing? The reason I'm wondering is that in the user manual it says that in 'offline mode' you cannot place any calls except emergency calls. Well, if you can place emergency calls, doesn't that mean that the phone still is in some kind of online mode and transmits signals to 'remain alive'?

Offline mode switches off the radios. It is the same as flight mode. Emergency number thing must be a red herring.

In offline mode the phone radio is powered off, but if you make an emergency call, the radio gets turned on to make the call. So, avoid attempting to make emergency calls when in flight.
