I've reported to Nokia my problem but I'd like to see if I'm the only one.

I'm using a secured SMTP in my compagny, on which is accessible from any network. This feature eis very usefull with mobile devices and secure (one SMTP to all accounts, even personal, and works from operators and wifi private networks).
Protocol used is identification ant SSL/TLS on SMTP on standard port.
On my e-61, seem to be OK after the setup and my mail goes out correctly.

BUT ! After the firs send, the setup switchs to START/TLS which is the wrong protocol, so I had to change it before every outgoing mail !

Is somebody uses this autentification ? With same problems or not ?

The same thing happened with my E61, but START TLS turned out to be the correct setting!

Many SSL/TLS systems also seem to work with START/TSL so it may be that not everyone notices this.

Many mail servers support both SSL/TLS and StartTLS. Some (IMAP especially it seems) servers don't support StartTLS.

In any case, one difference to be aware of is that Nokia sends the password for SSL/TLS connections as plain text, which is fine of course, as the connection is already encrypted at that point. For StartTLS, the password is sent as a CRAM-MD5 hash. Even if your server supports CRAM-MD5, it will need to have access to your original password to authenticate the CRAM-MD5 hash.

I was trying for the same with our company SMTP/SSL, and it appears for both WLAN and 2G/3G in my case.

It seems like the the E61 resets the protocol to StartTLS and the default port. :frown:

The good news is that I found a weird semi-hack to get this to work (kind of)! :D

For each Access Point you can set a SMTP in pretty much the same way as for each mailaccount, but the settings are not resetted.

Go to Tools->Settings->Connection->Access point groups->"Your connection group"->Access Points; Here you add the APs that you will be using.

In this view, press Options->SMTP settings; Here enable "Override SMTP serv." and input you SMTP info.

This will force the mailclient to use these settings, only drawback is that this override will be for all mailaccounts.
