4Site 22-11-2006, 11:46 PM Video Conversion Guide For N80/N73
Part 1: Information
Part 2: Conversion Guide
Part 3: Disk Space Usage
Part 4: Hints and Tips
PART 1: INFORMATION
A lot of people are being misinformed and mislead into using inferior quality codecs when converting videos for using on their NSeries phones.
There are two big issues. Firstly people are being advised to use a third party applications/programs like SmartMovie or DivX Player to use with their AVI format videos...
*FAMILY FORTUNES INCORRECT SOUND EFFECT*
WRONG!!!
Even lower end laptops struggle to smoothly play full screen AVI format videos so expecting this from a phone that has a hundred other features fighting for resources is a completely wrong way of thinking. Yea sure all them original state AVIs on your computer will play using these apps but unless you like stuttering audio and unwatchable frame rates of something like 2 frames per second, these files need to be converted into a more mobile friendly state and here in lies the issue. If CONVERSION IS MANDATORY why not use the standard built in video player and put less pressure on the ever unstable resources of your NSeries phone… QUALITY!! I HEAR YOU SCREAM.
*FAMILY FORTUNES INCORRECT SOUND EFFECT*
…AGAIN
This is where people make the 2nd mistake. People confuse formats and conversion codecs. The NSeries out of the box player for videos is the Real Player which supports Real Media formats (confusing and difficult conversion), 3GPP (crap quality), MP4 STANDARD (file size and quality issues) and MP4 AVC. People who I have seen in video conversion topics on this board have not always been been able to distinguish between the various formats. The Mp4 AVC is a high quality / low bandwith / low file size format that’s been made the Official Standard for Digital Video which means from now on it will be used in almost everything to do with digital media (unless a megalomaniac behemoth is involved *cough* Microsoft *cough*). The advantages of this format are obvious, amazing quality video, low file size. I’ve noticed people using the lower quality 3GPP and MP4 Standard codecs to convert files which is like your NSeries phone being a DVD player but you choosing to play VCDs on it only.
Unless your struggling for disk space there is only one logical choice. Converting your videos into a format that’s high quality, playable as standard on your NSeries phone.
Part 2: CONVERSION GUIDE
To convert your video files into the best format playable out of the box on your NSeries phone you need three things.
- eRight Super
(Advanced Video Converter, Freeware, LINK: http://updat1.free.fr/AD93AFC6A3D0FD9DBA9FDE/SUPERsetup.exe)
- The Super NSeries AVC Profile
(Created By Yours Truly, Attached To This Post, LINK AT BOTTOM OF POST)
- Video You Wish To Convert
(obviously lol)
1) Once you’ve installed Super and extracted the profile to somewhere on your hard drive start up Super.
2) Import the Profile (which tells Super what settings to use) by right clicking anywhere on Super’s Main Window and select "Import (Load) An External Super © Profile" and directing Super to where you extracted the Profile and selecting it.
3) Select the video file to be converted, right click anywhere on Super’s Main Window and select "Add Multimedia File(s)” then direct Super to the video file you wish to use and select it.
4) Click on the “Encode” button and wait until Super finishes the task (PLEASE NOTE: The Progress bar which shows up is for display purposes only it does not function so it will keep restarting)
5) Transfer the file from the “Output Folder Destination” (usually “c:\Program Files\eRightSoft\SUPER\OutPut”) to your phone using your usual method.
6) HEY PRESTO. You should now be able to play the video file in Gallery under Images & Videos.
Part 3: Disk Space Usage
An hour episode of something like Lost or Prison Break is about 140mb with the original settings from the profile. With a fast 2GB memory card goin for around £30-40 its worth getting one if you aint got one cause the quality is really comparable with lower end portable DVD players.
You can reduce the sound quality to mono by selecting "Channels" as "1" instead of "2" this usually reduces the file size by about 15% without much reduction on quality.
You can also set the "Bitrate kbps" to "228" instead of "336" this reduces the file size between 10-20% without any apparent quality loss.
Part 4: TINTS & TIPS
I've come across a bug in Super thats unrelated to the settings above. Sometimes the program randomly produces a corrupt file that will not be deteced on your phone in the Gallery. When this happens it lets u kno there was an error in red text under the audio section just delete the the file produced and start encoding again. Its a software bug which will get fixed next release seems this happens if a screen saver starts up or the computer goes into stand by mode so disabling these before conversion for larger files such as movies is recommended.
When playing videos back on your phone try not to have a lot of apps running at the same time as this reduces performance.
If you spot any mistakes, have any problems or wanna make a comment feel free to post them here.
Enjoy.
monmon_4 23-11-2006, 01:25 AM Yea that's a pretty good guide. Maybe someone will sticky it. I like how it's very comprehensive. I actually haven't tried converting anything in terms of video to play on my n73 so Ill give this method a shot instead of doing it the normal way I usually do. Btw, does anyone know if the iPod Video plays mp4 AVC? I'm lazy to search.
4Site 24-11-2006, 12:50 AM Yea i know it plays mp4 standard but not too sure bout the AVC.
Trust me the above settings make your N73 a better video player than the ipod video i got both and the quality and clarity of the screen on the n73 definitely makes it watchable. Try it you will be suprised.
monmon_4 24-11-2006, 05:31 AM I tried it but I'm getting errors when it tries to encode, all the times. It says to use DirectShow, but that's not working either. Weird huh
4Site 25-11-2006, 03:13 AM your software isn't configured right or theres a conflict wid the program try to search the Super forum there's a few fixes on there for u to try
http://www.erightsoft.com/Supforum.html
natanlevine 26-11-2006, 09:35 PM Great guide! I've just successfully put a movie on my n73 to your instructions and it works great. I have to admit though playing encoded avi's on my avi player work just as well and the program is slightly more comfortable than realplayer. Its only a pity all movies are made in a way that they are very narrow so never fill up the screen. I don't suppose there's some way of fixing that is there?
4Site 27-11-2006, 03:05 AM Play around with the "Stretch It" option under the Video "Options" section.
Lemme know how you get on
kevinpatel 04-12-2006, 11:21 AM hey, i've tried out the software... it works very well... and i've got to say the prints are amazing guys... it's cool...
natanlevine 22-12-2006, 12:11 PM Ok I've been using your settings and its been great. The only problem is that with mp4's they go into the gallery and make everything go really slow. With an avi player obviously I don't have this problem.
Could you please tell me how to use super to do the same thing only on avi format? Thanx!
I use a program called M3. Its simply the best. It is primarily for SE handsets, but you can create your own profile to match your phones capability's, as i did with my n73. I copied the k800i's, but changed the framerate, and changed the resolution to 352x288..stereo sound at 128kbps..full screen..
It gives the best quality films/tv etc, ive ever seen...used those settings with snakes on a plane, and it looks awesome.
MartinC#1 01-01-2007, 10:23 PM This is the Profile I am using.
It produces about 60MB files for a 45 minute TV show with good quality.
4Site 02-01-2007, 12:15 AM This is the Profile I am using.
It produces about 60MB files for a 45 minute TV show with good quality.
The codec your using is the H.263 in the 3GP container format.
Trust me if you use the profile I've provided the quality of the video you've converted will be on a whole another level.
Super has a few bugs in it and the developers seem to be dragging their feet regarding updates.
If checking different programs at the moment to see if any do the job well once something suits our needs i'll update the guide.
MartinC#1 02-01-2007, 01:46 AM Hey 4site,
I have no doubt your profile will produce better quality video.
The profile I posted produces much more compact files & the quality when played back with the N73 hardware (in reference to its display, sound) is good.
So what I'm trying to do is get the file size as low as possible while maintaining acceptable quality. I'm not trying to produce files with the highest possible quality just a good compromise between quality/size.
MartinC#1 02-01-2007, 08:24 AM I have some files that would playback fine on my N73 expect they need to be reduced from 25fps to 15fps.
Is there any software that can do this?
4Site 02-01-2007, 11:46 PM Hey Martin
Agree with your views about the whole issue of quality versus file size totally but a 1gb memory card is pretty much the standard nowadays and with the price of 2GB SD cards shooting down all the time there's no point having a phone with the capability to act on par with most personal media player (AS WELL as everything else it can manage to a exceedingly high standard) and not taking full advantage of it.
ROLL ON 4GB cards i say.

4Site,
Even so I think your Profile is overkill,
I have some TV shows encoded in the following way,
320x240 180kbps mp4v + 64kbps-2ch mp4a (25fps)
The files are only 80mb for a 45 minute TV show. I watch these on my 80cm Tv & would rate them as VHS quality. On a 2.4" screen these look flawless.
The Video is 25fps, it's encoded in MPEG-4 ASP & the bitrate is only 180kbps!. We have only 15fps to encode & use AVC/H.264 which is even more efficient so anything more than 180kbps is overkill.
4Site 04-01-2007, 12:20 AM You might be right to keep the guide as useful as possible I'm gonna try lower bitrates to compare the quality/file size issue.
I'll post my findings in the next update of the guide.
Any1 aware of any AVC/H.264 encoders that have worked on the NSeries phones?

djsharky 07-01-2007, 06:38 PM before conversion of the fille how can i attach the subtitle to the movie?????
pnqiu 08-01-2007, 01:11 PM after upgrading to the new bulid SUPER Version 2007 build 21... the option "stretch it" is gone...anybody know how can i stretch the widescreen movie in the new version?
nuttyhotspurs 11-01-2007, 05:26 PM hi ive saved the profile attached to this thread. i load up super. i import the profile and
(1) under "select output container" it says mp3 (audio only) . do i need to change this to mp4?
(2) under "select output video codec" its blank. what do i do?
(3) under "select output audio codec" it says mp3 is that right?
(4) under video bitrate kbps i see the option for 336 but not 228 which you recommend that we select to reduce file size. do you mean 288?
apologies if i sound a bit dense. im new to this conversion lark. any help would be greatly appreciated!!
thanks
pnqiu 11-01-2007, 08:31 PM The profile that you've downloaded is not valid anymore. That is only for the old version of Super. But don't worry, the programm is not as complicated as it may seem. So you going to start from a scratch.
1. Select Output Container - mp4 ( I used this container as it can be play with Realplayer and it is the best container for video rather than 3gp)
2. Output Video Codec - H.264/AVC ( This is the newest codec that can be played by N73 and the video is surely better than 3gp)
3. Output Audio Codec - AAC
4. Video Scale Size - 320x240 ( for N73; depends on your mobile resolutions)
5. Aspect Ratio - 4:3
6. Frame/Sec - 15 - (if you want better picture you can select 23.98 or higher, but than the file size would be bigger)
7. Bitrates - 240 - ( you can choose from range 192 - 336 for better picture)
8. Sampling Freq - normally 44100 - or you still can lower the freq but it effects the quality of sound
9. Channel - 2 - for stereo
10. Bitrates - 32 or higher
11. Then add your input/original file using right click options or just drag it into Super
12. Encode! - this going to take a while
that was it! Enjoy then.:)
nuttyhotspurs 12-01-2007, 08:20 AM thanks pnqiu!! top man! and also thanks to MartinC#1 and 4Site!
4Site produces great quality but ive found that the files cant be shared with my mates via bluetooth. they play fine on my phone but the icon is of a broken file for some reason
martinc#1 good quality and the videos can be shared!!
cheers people
ibarbar 13-01-2007, 06:25 PM Hi, guys.
I have an N73 ME (very thrilled 'bout it ) and since for now my home PC is busted really bad I only have my iMac at work.
So, any of you know how I can convert some videos using OS X software ?
Thanks.
spoochan 13-01-2007, 08:04 PM Here are my SUPERv2007.build.21 Settings for my N73 w/c produces the least frameskip among other tested settings
Output Container - MP4
Output Video CODEC - H.264/AVC
Output Audio Codec - AAC
Video Scale Size - 320x240
Aspect - 4:3
Frame/Sec - 14.985 (has less frameskip than 15fps)
Bitrate Kbps - 384 (192 - 384 its up to you really)
H264 Profile - Baseline 1.2 (needed to be selected otherwise won't work with your phone)
Sampling Frequency - 44100
Channels - 2
Bitrate Kbps - 128

** Uncheck 'Hi Quality' **
** Uncheck 'Top Quality' **
4Site 16-01-2007, 01:10 AM Appreciation to all the people who helped people with the new release of Super (about time) while i was away.
Please note within the next week or so I will update the guide
but i'm fed up of Super's unreliability so the next edition of the guide will be using M3 Mobile Music Video Encoder (freeware again) and will be as easy to follow as this version (if not easier).
Advantages of using M3 will include automatic variable levels of encoding to help people with limited disk space, more robust and reliable encoding, and (hopefully) thumbnails working in the Gallery for H.264 video.
Keep Fresh and Stay Active
S.I.T.E.
samhfoley 20-01-2007, 03:26 AM I followed your instructions perfectly, made a 180MB movie file and put it onto my 256MB miniSD. Went to play it on my N73 and got the message that there was not enough memory...please close some applications. There are no applications open that I know of... What do you think is going on here? Please advise. Thanks.

enterthemax 22-01-2007, 06:12 PM Hi!
I've got an N73, but when i convert my files in the mp4 AVC format they doesn't work on the phone.
Have you got a guess about it?:con? :con?
Well, ive been using M3 since it's inital version and it's come along way. Ive used super!!, nero etc etc, but m3 is simply the best by far.
Recent addition's allow for creating your own profile, for mobiles that aren't listed.
I use these settings for the best output ive ever seen from a converter...
Screen res - 320 x240 or 352 x 288
Video bitrate - 325
Sound bitrate 96 or 128 kbps (LC AAC)
Frames Per Sec - 15 (anything upward produces skipping..especially at 25fps)
Quality - Best
Did rocky iv tonight under these settings..and it came in at a reasonable 263mb.
Quite sufficient if you have a gig card or even a 512 card.
4Site 23-01-2007, 02:13 AM Hi!
I've got an N73, but when i convert my files in the mp4 AVC format they doesn't work on the phone.
Have you got a guess about it?:con? :con?
More than likely the avc file is not in the right format
Is there sound or video or does nothing happen at all?
Video
Should use the H.264 / AVC codec
Resolution should be 320 x 240
Framerate should be 15 frames per second
Bitrate should be less than 384kbs
H.264/AVC Profile should be Baseline profile 1.2 (below should work too)
Audio
Should be in AAC format
Should be 44100
Stereo or Mono (means 1 or 2 channels)
Bitrate should be 128kbps or below
The audio settings are pretty flexible so can be adjusted to suit needs such as disk space and etc. The video settings however are pretty much set in stone so be careful they are not incorrectly set as this would make the file unplayable.
Watch out for the new guide being posted this weekend or early next week.
samhfoley 25-01-2007, 01:47 PM Can someone post a link for the M3 program? Tried searching for M3 but got lots of crazy riff-raff. Thanks.
-Sam
Scraplab 25-01-2007, 07:49 PM How do you tell it to size to 320x240, but not to stretch the aspect ratio? I want to encode a widescreen movie, but it comes out in 4:3.
ChemicalBrother 29-01-2007, 04:19 PM I've been using M3 to convert videos for my N73 and it's great - cheers for the headsup. It's quicker than other encoders and the quality is better. Plus, from what I've done so far there's not been too much of a problem with audio/video sync issues like I've found with other converters.
For those that want to find the program - go to howardforums.com and do a search - It's a program by a guy called "mysh" and it's available on there somewhere (can't remember what steps I took to find it, but I did!)
He has awebsite as well but AFAICS it's not on there to download - the link is this anyway: vapulus Note, this program was orginally intended for Sony Ericsson phones no Nokia NSeries so all default settings and most user input is geared towards them instead.
seb_g 01-02-2007, 09:56 AM Just wondering a couple of things:
- is 15fps the maximum frame rate (at 320x240, h264 mp4) that the N73 can display smoothly?
- this M3 program looks good - however, there is no default profile for the N73 yet. Which Sony-Ericsson phone should I select in the main menu as the 'equivalent'?
ChemicalBrother 01-02-2007, 03:46 PM If I was 100% sure of what settings to use and quality required I'd upload my M3 profile for N73. Unfortunately I'm not at that point yet - I'm still perplexd about the AAC format, it's different varieties and it's different names - not too mention what is best to use and when!
Actually, scrap most of that - I've added my profile for M3. It should work no matter which of the three video quality options on the Basic Options tab.
You can fine tune it further if you want. Also, some videos look amazing even at 200kbps but obviously not stuff that has too much fast moving action.
Having to use 15fps instead of 25 (PAL) or 24.whatever/29.whatever (NTSC) is a bit of a pain - but it appears that's the only way it will appear smoothly. I'm sure I've done 25/30fps files for use with Smatmovie/DivX Player in the past though - but the encode files were made by PocketDivxEncoder and SUPER.
tragictramp 13-02-2007, 09:53 AM I have tried all the settings above using super, and cannot get any videos to play on my n73, i used the same or similar settings and got them to work fine on my n80, i have flashed the n73 to the music edition firmware but dont think this would have any bearing on why they dont work, the phone shows the files as a broken link and when attempting to play it will only play the music after a warning and no video is displayed, any ideas folks, and where can u get this m3 program from?
cheers
tuvi123 15-02-2007, 11:10 AM :) hey guys.. super is the best program ever.... ihave problem with the thumbnail.. anyone knows how to fix it ? ... plz help ..
symbiantest 20-02-2007, 09:44 PM Hello guys, is it possible to reduce the amount of compression of the
files generated using the xvid codec or other codec to allow the cpu to properly display lets say 24fps?.
Currently I am playing around with Super.
I have had no luck going over 15fps and that's without audio!!.
If I could reduce the compression to allow the file to be bigger we could increase framerate since its easier for the cpu and memory cards are so cheap
anyway so why compress video that hard.
Im I wrong or has anyone successfully viewed a clip without stutter in a higher framerate like 25fps?.
Regards /Peter
naughtydude 21-02-2007, 09:39 AM nokia should increase the frame rates to 30fps ... anyone else thinks the same?

boothy 20-03-2007, 03:08 PM Hi
I have just downloaded latest version of super - the N80 profile posted at the start of this thread -does not seem to work anymore (on my machine it says audio only after importing profile. Also am I right in saying that N73 screen is not native 320x240 and therfore could image size not be decreased to offset greater framerate?

I have been wondering the same, I tried encoding a widescreen film using both the 4:3 and 16:9 setting and they were both came out horizontally stretched.
I have been using super and the quality is excellent.
does anybody know how to increase the volume slightly?
Cybermax 31-03-2007, 04:44 PM Anyone got a fix to get a proper thumbnail for N73 media player? It shows as a "broken" thumbnail..
santrix 05-04-2007, 09:55 AM Sorry, this pist has been changed as I found the resoution is 320x240.
However, if anyone knows how to encode widescreen video without it being stretched into the 3:4 aspect ratio I would be grateful!
Steve
the super N80 profile does not work for me.
the output format is "mp3 only"?
is this profile working for ne newest super version?
VinterKrig 07-04-2007, 06:28 PM I have been wondering the same, I tried encoding a widescreen film using both the 4:3 and 16:9 setting and they were both came out horizontally stretched.
I have been using super and the quality is excellent.

You can encode 16:9 right with super. It´s so easy. Works in N73 with RealPlayer 100%. Interested?
- Video Scale Size: 320x240
- Aspect: 16:9 (forces aspect ratio to 16:9)
If You try clicking other resolution, see that the aspect changes accordingly. You have to first set the resolution to 320x240 and then 16:9. Don´t touch those settings anymore!
Now to the hard part, lol. Disable "stretch it" from options. There You go, not so hard? ;) Now it plays 16:9 in RealPlayer, fullscreen. (with black bars on top and bottom of course)
Here´s a screenshot of my settings:
http://i13.tinypic.com/3yglr85.jpg
And if You want, here are my SUPER profiles for N73, 320x240 and wide:
http://rapidshare.com/files/24815987/N73_NormalAndWide.zip
PS. Download latest version of Super First -> v.2007 build 22, and drop the .spf files to C:/....SUPER/profiles. If the quality does not satisfy, raise bitrate little.
Oh, and the other thing, raising volume:
Other opts -> tick "adjust the encode volume" and raise the bar to 100-200%, what ever You need.
Here is M3 (v0.8.9.8) with N73 profile for those who can´t find M3:

Now throw me a goddamn cookie, or two :D
adamwest 11-04-2007, 04:56 PM Many thanks.
Didn't see the stretch it option.
Again Thanks
Dreadnought21 13-04-2007, 01:22 PM The profile in the first post doesn't work for me... :con? Just says "ERROR" Can someone please help me? Write down the settings manually perhaps?
I'm using N73 ME. DivX just "got old" again so switching to RealPlayer would be nice. Please advice. I'm also trying to get videos from YouTube... Any N73 users who take videos from YouTube to their phones, how do you do?
Thanks!
Dreadnought21 13-04-2007, 06:23 PM Ok, now I got it working. The key was to put fps to 15. On my DivX player I'va always used 30 fps...? But the quality is still fab.
Why can AVI files make 30 fps but these MP4's only make 15 tops?
EDIT: Can the RealPlayer rewind/fast forward videos? It seems quite crude compared to DivX. Any thoughts? And where can I download the latest version of DivX player? Thanks for your patience.
lector 14-04-2007, 11:21 PM hi,
can some one post a working "super profile" for the latest super 2007 build(nokia n73)
i tried al of them posted here and none are working. they or just dont play or they play and have a broken thumbnail in the gallery
thanx for the help.
VinterKrig 17-04-2007, 03:37 PM I'm using N73 ME. DivX just "got old" again so switching to RealPlayer would be nice. Please advice. I'm also trying to get videos from YouTube... Any N73 users who take videos from YouTube to their phones, how do you do?

Here is a free program for grabbing videos from YouTube:
http://rapidshare.com/files/26488527/YoutubeGrabber.zip
Easy to use. Just put it into a folder where-ever in Your PC´s HD. Run Program, find the video You want. Copy address bar to empty field in YouTubeGrabber and click Grab! Video will be downloaded to same folder where .exe is.
Now You can convert that video (.flv extension) using Super. IF conversion fails, install latest stable release of ffdshow video codec in your PC.
Can the RealPlayer rewind/fast forward videos? It seems quite crude compared to DivX. Any thoughts? And where can I download the latest version of DivX player? Thanks for your patience.
Yes You can rewind/fastforward with Realplayer but not in fullscreen mode. At least not with my current firmware. I Don´t know if this is a bug but I´d like to rew/ff in fullscreen too.

DivXplayer is practicly a clone of SmartMovie. This will propably work for like next 3 months or so. Don´t really know since I use SmartMovie for to watch .avi files.
Any more questions, just ask.

BanziBarn 06-06-2007, 10:08 AM Sorry - another question about aspect ratio in Super.
I'd like to encode a widescreen movie so that it's full screen on the phone.
When I choose 4:3 on the menu the picture becomes tall and thin becuase it's squashing the sides in to fit.
What I'd like it to do is lose the sides of the film so that it fills the full height of the phones screen and keeps the right proportions.
Is this possable?
Many thanks :)
EDIT: I've just seen the crop / pad option on the above screen shot - maybe this is what I need?
MortyOslo 10-06-2007, 11:12 PM Yo, watch movies in wide screen my man! Still better even on a small mobile screen, if you ask me..
"Wide screen - like it was meant to be seen!"

Yes, it´s possible, with cropping. But that´s plain stupid if You ask me. Why would You want to lose important video from sides? You can have the right aspect by FIRST clicking Video scale size 320x240, and then clicking 16:9 from the aspect ratio. And disable "stretch it" like I said in my previous post (with a pic). With those settings things don´t get streched, You have all proportions correct. With black bars up and bottom of course.
If You really wanna cut important info off, try playing with the crop figurations.
If I need to crop, I use VirtualDub cause You can preview the conversion while editing.
Which settings should i use for my E60 with this super program?E60 has bigger screen (352 x 416) so You better raise the video bitrate. Try first using 384kbps. If it´s blocky go higher. And select 14,985fps, I think it will jerk if You try 30fps
VinterKrig 11-06-2007, 07:26 PM Sorry about the doublepost.
redda2 03-07-2007, 07:03 AM i keep getting this error after using super to convert files (opening with real player on n73)
"unable to play either sound or video clip trying to play partially"
i can get sound but no video
here is my super settings
img512.imageshack.us/img512/2035/superob1.jpg
Am I doing anything wrong?
redda2 03-07-2007, 07:50 AM Ok, i figured it out
n73 doesn't support the H.264 codec, had to use the mpeg-4 codec instead
Luckyu 12-07-2007, 11:40 AM Hi. Im a new user here, sry my bad english. i would to know can i watch videos whit full screen. If some1 could tell me that would be nice. :icon14: Pls dont say read above or search because ive search soo muchh :D sry if this was a bad question. :D
redda2 18-07-2007, 12:05 PM i think select the stretch option
naughtydude 19-07-2007, 01:34 AM i think few people have ask how to convert a 16:9 to 4:3 without stretching it...well heres my way:
On Super, drag a video in the input list.
Select MP4 as an output
Select MPEG-4 for video codec
AAC for audio codec
On the VIDEO BOX click on crop/pad under Options
New window will appear
Check on Pad ON
I usually just put 32 on the top and bottom and 0 on right and left.
Frame per Secs will be atleast 25 to 30, i use 29.97
Aspect will be 4:3
and video size will something like 320x240 or 640x480 or something that is equal to 4:3 ratio...
ON the AUDIO Box, choose 48000 for sampling frequency, 2 channels, 256 for bitrate (I chose these settings for good sound quality).
Then start to encode it. When finished you will have an MP4 file. So now ur ready convert the mp4 to avi(divx) for divx player for your phone...
all you need to do is convert the mp4 to avi on super with 320x240 4:3 size with good sound quality and thats it! you have a wide screen video on ur phone!
dumwaldo 15-08-2007, 10:32 PM I have been encoding and reencoding video for many years now and I have to say his entire guide and the methods suggested just gave me a headache. I played around a bit with Super and found it to be very user UNfriendly and somewhat lacking. I also think Real Player is gak and I won't use it on my computer so to hell with making it my primary video player on my phone.
All in all, it took me only a few hours to completely dismiss everything said in this thread and download the FREE DivX mobile player and return to my trusty old VirtualDub/MPEG2 mod for conversions.
I don't have to struggle with aspect ratios since I can use ANY aspect ratio I want. This is a pretty nice feature when dealing with 'early bootleged' movies that might not follow the 16:9 or 4:3 aspect properly. Heck, if I want I can force these types of films into the proper aspect ratio without distorting the picture since I can crop stuff.
I am sorry but this entire discussion just seems like effort towards settling for what you can get. I say, if you are going to put forward the effort then put it towards a good direction and I do not think this thread points members in a good direction.
I did not write all this criticism and think I could post it and run. I fully realize what is going to follow. I expect a bunch of post from people saying 'if you think it sucks then lets see you write a better one'. Well I am completely willing to do that, but before I do it I would like to see some of those replies challenging me to do so. I want to know there is some interest in this and I am not writing something for a disinterested crowd.
See, I just want to know that my effort is going towards a good direction. I don't need to foist advice on people to validate myself but I would like to help if anybody is interested in the help.
peace,
dumwaldo

lion89 03-09-2007, 10:01 AM Yea that's a pretty good guide. I'm lazy to search. i really thought that the guide was going 2 help but the link was in french! but it sounds like u no how 2 convert files and put them on the n73 could you talk me through plzz i really am struggeling wb plz
xerxes 26-09-2007, 09:42 PM Can anyone tell me how to join together a number of MP4 files?
When I rip a DVD I get multiple VOB files. When I drag all the VOB files into Super I then get one MP4 file for each VOB file.
How do I get to a single MP4 file for the movie?

i converted a file using M3 to an mp4 file. put it on my phone, but the divxplayer can't seem to find it. i have 0.88 version. it recognizes the avi files i put on it, but not mp4. is there anything i can do to play mp4s on it, b/c i heard it is supposed to. does M3 convert to avi?
kallevespa 06-01-2008, 01:34 PM Hi there, I get the same problem.
when I load your profile, it puts mp3 as output?
when I put MP4 as output again, all your other settings are "gone" I tried to reload your profile but it happens all the time. Btw I allowed myself to open your profile with notepad++
but I have no path like the one in your profile?
[RealProducer]
Path=C:\PROGRA~1\Borland\Delphi7\Projects\Programs \WINFFM~1
that´s perhaps why?
could you post a screen shot with all your settings on it so we could make our own profile?
regards
mahesham22 15-01-2008, 02:09 PM thanks everyone for this good effort. I am getting Excellent quality video and audio with SUPER but
very slow volume level, can anyone help me how to increase the audio volume ?? tried at 50db in Other Options, but didn't work
I tried to convert 7 videos, but all of them gives very low volume
plz help..
I've got N73ME and after testing all the stuff I think this guide is not the best way to convert movies/series.
I've got quite excellent results with Super using mpeg4/avc but it's not the best way for a few reasons:
1. Super gets error nearly every time I try to encode something. DirectShow doesn't help.
2. Real Player sucks. It starts slowly and you cannot rewind in fullscreen. It can't handle 25fps mpeg4, only about 15fps.
After that I tried DivX mobile and that's the way to go. It easily handles 25fps divX files, which surprised me positively. I thought that divX would be a heavier format than mpeg4. With DivX the image quality is very good even with only 60MB/20min. DivX mobile is also free and it starts instantly. It immediately shows all divX files on your phone and it remembers where you left watching last time.
My piece of advice is to use DivX converter using "mobile"-profile, and forcing filesize to about 60-100MB/20min. Unfortunately the converter is only trial unless you have divX pro. You can try encoding to divX with super too, the results should be same. Play the file using DivX mobile. You have to register to get it free (from divx.com/mobile (http://www.divx.com/mobile)). Forget about RealPlayer and Mpeg4/avc.
Most of the stuff i convert is taken from the net and most net stuff is flv format i dont think divx converter handles those to well, in any case its a choice between avi & mp4 each has its good and bad. Avi files need a 3rd party application to play on the n73, such as smart movie or divx player. picture quality is bindas(good) alongwith sound but a point worth noting the converted video will be as good as the original... what i mean is if you have a flv file downloaded from say youtube, and you convert it to avi, if the flv file sucks so will the video on your phone infact i have found that files i convert on smartmovie converter often freeze and the sound and video are never in sync.
super is a very good converter and converts avi files better than smartmovie. another problem with avi files is that when sent via bluetooth since the phone doesnt recognize the file type it wont play.
Now the mp4 files have an advantage on this count coz they can be shared via bt. and the phone allows you to save the file in gallery and the realplayer does the rest.
Picture quality is on par with avi files, the one thing i think most people will find is that in the gallery the file shows as broken file with no thumbnail. this can be rectified by changing the codec most people use.
howellsag 14-02-2008, 09:36 AM You recommend the usage of "Super" to encode for a N73 phone, but did you realise that Super installs 2 different spyware/adware every time it runs (even if they are cleared after installation, it reinstalls them next time it runs).
Thanks for that bit of info, ill have to look into that but super does a great job converting.....
mach10 20-02-2008, 02:16 PM hi,ive been usin Super(which is da best video convertr ever...), and i noticed dat the the sound quality of my music videos converted with SUPER was even better thhan my mp3 songs in my N73...SUPER just produces a sound quality ridiculously awesome...:o:icon14:

edge_2723 17-03-2008, 05:39 PM anyone has the setting for nokia n82? thanks~
bliss81 27-03-2008, 12:45 PM what the fuk!!! m3 doesn't work. stupid vista updates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!does anyone know a fix?
Bolshoi Booze 08-05-2008, 01:51 AM Hey guys, great thread, great forum.
Just bought N73 Music Edition (superb) and installed Super build 30 and I can't convert any file.
When I click on "the error report" button it says my laptop doesn't have enough CPU speed. Funny, because I'm using a HP TX 1320us with 2.0GHz Turion X2 processor and 2GB RAM.
4Site or someone else, can I 'bypass' this check? Or there's another version of Super that I can use? Is there another software that converts to MP4-AVC?
For now I'll try WinAVI 3.1 with 3gp and regular MP4 conversions.
Thanks in advance!
Cheers from Sao Paulo, Brazil
