I have recently got a E61, I had a 9500 which I liked and had for a few years. The reason I changed was I lost the 9500 which was a work phone and my employer or their supplier does not do that phone anymore so after some thought the E61 was what I chose overall its been good and im happy with it but I have a few queries which I would appreciate some help.


1 Backup: I had done a recent backup with my 9500 which I have uploaded to my E61 the problem is all my documents, notes, reminders to myself cannot be opened with the E61. Any ideas why and how to change this.

2 Backup: If a contact has more than one mobile number only one, the most recent added, has been uploaded. Also when sychronising with Outlook and my old 9500 this also happened but I did not take much notice probably should have. I assume on the backup all data is sent to my PC but when uploaded some gets lost, any ideas how to get the second and third mobile numbers? Is there a way of viewing your backup on the PC?

3 Enlarging: The 9500 was good in you could increase size of fonts very easy can this be done in E61,

4 Calender: I had a calendar in the 9500 which I used a timesheet, expenses, and payment for extra work, which was separate from my meetings, appointments, engagements etc. Can this be done on the E61.

5 Alarm: I cant work out how to set the alarm to go of at the same time every day. I have to set it every night.

6 Calender: Is there a search function which was very useful in the 9500.

1. and 2. - related about the way both phones work. One is Symbian S80 and the other S60. So, not all are compatible:frown:

3. No.

4. No. S60 again!

5. Only with third part software, like "handy clock".

6. No. Could have on third part software like, Papyrus or Aqua Calendar.

Why the relative, lack of software for the E61. Or should I say the preception that there is a shortage.

I have just bought Media Studio 3.5 and am very disappointed to find that the video player talked about on the website will not work on the E61. Support tells me to use Real Player which kind of defeats the purpose.

Is it early days ?

Most of S60v3 software is for all devices, also for E61.

fonts are generally app specific in my expereince, worth checking options on apps softkey but - perhaps there is a general setting in Tools -> Phone menu?

There is things like alternative calendar I think and in fact lots of good freeware - you just have to be a bit of a nerd though and google around, as it is scattered around the web. I try and make it feel like fun. subscribe to the e61 and e-series blogs too - you quickly can get much more out of the phone this way. It is a brilliant phone but one has to learn all its secrets and make use of other developers kind works which often add features one hasn't imagined...e.g. podcasting on phone, GMail app, Opera Mini very rapid scrolling through web pages (and proxy stripping of unneeded content), Fring free-Skype client (now works!!!) and the wireless generally is ace once you work it out / get over the glitches.
