View Full Version : Forward internet to phone over bluetooth?

I've got a newish Nokia S60 phone (an E70) which spends a certain fraction of the workday out of GPRS connection range (let alone EDGE or WiFi), but within Bluetooth range of a Mac G5 with blazing Internet.

I'm wondering whether there's a way to configure the phone to feed off of the Mac's Internet service via Bluetooth. I haven't had any luck with web searches so far (there is an old Mac script that worked on a Nokia 3650 under Mac OS X 10.3, but the web site that originally proffered it is apparently defunct so I can't figure out whether it can be done with my more modern equipment. And I don't know the ins and outs of setting up connections through the phone itself.

(Please don't advise me to set up a WiFi router; it isn't permitted in this instance. I think my options are Bluetooth or a long walk down the hall. And I'm not enjoying the long walk down the hall.)

Thanks!

I don't have my Mac in front of me but you can check the Networking or Sharing preferences to see if Internet Connection Sharing can be enabled via Bluetooth. I don't believe it can.

A Bluetooth Access Point might do this for you (sans the Mac) but I've never tried one.

I found numerous articles on Google but my account isn't allowed to post links (yet). Most were outdated and deal with the Palm and using BT via PPP.

THe only way is by Gnubox Project, if E70 is already supported, and if is Mac software. A lot of "ifs"....
