I have the N73 and am a little anoyed with a few things in the phone.

With active standby enabled I get my appointments on the standby screen which is great but... if an appointment runs from 9am to 11.30am it disapears from the active standby screen at 9am. Is there a way to show appointments on the active standby screen in the entire time it persists?
Alternatively does anyone know how to access the phones software, maybe I could take a look at it myself?!

Also is there a good sms software, or software upgrade? I miss the ability to have animated smileys in my text messaging...I know it is silly but it would be really nice:-)

Don't about the appointment/Calender question
but for the sms question there a few programs

animated sms
threaded sms
sms chat

i don't use these , i rather use the normal sms text with add smilly in the sms with that, but nokia wouldn't change the sms option so yeah, good luck
