I have setup my N73 to connect to gmail via imap

First thing i have noticed that is when i go into messages i have "gmail" there but to the right hand side i have what looks like a purple egg timer which is slanted

So i click on that, then goto OPTIONS>EMAIL SETTINGS

then goto USER SETTINGS>NEW E-MAIL ALERTS and set this to ON

The problem is i get no notification on the standby screen telling me i have a new email. I have to go into messages then look for the red star on the left of my mailbox name

Am i missing something somewhere cause surely i should be notified of new emails (like you do when you get new SMS)

i experience the same problem. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

found it possibly has something to do with "send copy to self" option. when deactivating that, i ussually receive notifacations. but as soon as i've sent mail from the phone, even with "send copy to self" off, the phone still pics up on gMail's thread and download the sent message as new mail, which causes the notification to fail...

not much help i'm afraid, but you are not alone...
