Does anyone know how to disable the Packet Data Connection?

I just lost 50 Euro (I am living in Italy) from my prepay Vodafone account when my E51 automatically switched to the Packet Data Connection and stayed connected overnight. I was connected to my wifi network, but evidently, the E51 will automatically switch to the Packet Data Connection once you're wifi is out of reach - how do I prevent this!

I have not used a E-51 but in my E-70, under settings for access point I chose the option always ask. That way when ever I want to surf the net I will chose the connection be it wi-fi or the normal connection from my service provider. In the event the conection breaks, I will be prompted to chose the connection of my choice. I hope this helps.
