i just updated my 3 hour old n81 8gb! from v10 to v11 it all went sweet right up until it restarted! it asked for pin number, ok entered it, then up comes a message saying 'phone start up failed contact retailer' :o GRRRRRRRRR so i took battery out for abit, nowt changed, done a hard reset NOTHING! took the sim out it started up fine in offline mode for a few seconds, then where it said o2 before it was flashing locked! :o now no matter what i try it gets half way through the nokia hands and up comes the message (even the hands freeze up!) what can i do? it wont reconize on the PC so i cant reinstall, i got it off ebay today, it was fine until the update i done,

can i take it to a service centre and will they charge me loads for the pleasure?

or should i send it in to nokia the free service centre as i done that before with a 6280 that went duff after a update...

damm nokias! rant over

well after spending 4hours in town yesterday and a hour in the nokia service centre they couldnt fix the n81, they said they were going to open it up but i reakon they lied and tried what i did :icon13:

neway this is what i done and this is what i found out so far!

it seems new nokias when updated are not totally reflashed, some data remains ie. the operator shizznizz live VODAFONE LIVE! crap stays, numbers some others things,

well after the 'phone start up failed contact retailer' stage i have beaten it so far enough to satisfy my needs (seems ok bar the VODAFONE LIVE! crap)

i tried a different sim to my o2 one a virgin one without a code and after turning it on i keept pushing the left soft key and it got into the phone as normal (no message) BUT it wouldnt stay on the standby screen only the main menu push red and straight back into the menu, neways now i had it at this stage i could plug it into the PC and try updater again (stupid i no) to reinstall the software V11.0.0.45 (i think) well that worked untill phone started up again and same message appeared :mad: so i tried NSS and went back to VODAFONE code and that wouldnt do anything as it said v11 is newest ect try searching again.. neways went to town nowt after 5 hours, on way home i figured it was something to do with the active standby, turned that off would go on the main screen then, i then was messing about and tried the welcome bit (well the phone to me was a day old :rolleyes: ) and that wouldnt work so messing around again i tried FACTORY RESET

BINGO IF YOU GO THROUGH WHAT I WENT THROUGH FACTORY RESET IT AND AWAIT NOKIA BRINGING OUT A WAY OF DEBRANDING THE N81-8GB!!
