For example, if i wanted to type 'deliberately' then 'delib' would be enough to get me a short list of words including deliberately. It seems on E51 you cannot do this, and you have to enter every single letter. Is this correct or is there a configuration setting I am missing?

Nope, your not missing anything. Nokia's have never brought up a word list (as far as I know).
