View Full Version : BBC iPlayer for all S60 users (through Skyfire) - with caveats
slitchfield 01-12-2008, 09:16 AM I've just found out that BBC iPlayer's (UK-only) streaming TV programmes work in the beta Skyfire browser for all S60 phones, there are comments and some screenshots below of it working on my Nokia N82. Previously, iPlayer access had only been possible on the N96 or via hacked versions of the iPlayer widget on selected other devices.

neilhoskins 01-12-2008, 09:56 AM But will it do downloads or just streaming?
slitchfield 01-12-2008, 10:13 AM Just streaming. Of course. There's no DRM in place to handle encrypted downloads.....
Ratkat 01-12-2008, 10:23 AM When using Skyfire to view the BBC iPlayer, you are using the desktop version, hence you can view programs not normally available on the mobile version, for example 'Heroes'
Also you can stream both BBC One & BBC Two live using the following links.
BBC One - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/playlive/bbc_one
BBC Two - http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/playlive/bbc_two
Works reasonable well, frame rate suffers slightly on my E71, but still watchable
You can keep the backlight on by using skyfire in conjunction with SmartLight

wingphil 01-12-2008, 10:55 AM The BBC's offical s60 widget works perfectly on my n95, it's not restricted to the n96 at all.
Unregistered 01-12-2008, 12:28 PM The current Skyfire beta doesn't even install on the N80, for example. Apparently, they've dropped support for all devices with 352x416 displays. Shame.
Why would I like to have BBC PLAYER? :o

Good question, but only you can answer it.
redfox 01-12-2008, 08:31 PM why cant i load Skyfire onto my i8510?
i dont understand why any phone with S60 FP2 isnt an applicable device. Can anyone explain this to me, please?
no matter which version i get (either direct to the phone or from the PC) i get the same error - Not certified - and thats that...
When i did it thru the phone, the browser autodetect system said i have a Samsung SGH-i870 (i think) but that didnt work.
bbking 01-12-2008, 10:46 PM It installed OK on an E65 but was unusably slow and I lost patience before getting to iPlayer.
Unregistered 12-02-2009, 05:30 AM I just got a hold of SkyFire and found it most impressive. I use it to stream all the content from 3click.TV Thousands of ad free episodes with complete seasons of each show right in the pocket.... awesome... thx SkyFire
Unregistered 14-02-2009, 03:01 PM if you have iplayer working on your current version of skyfire, do not upgrade to version 0.9 of skyfire as iplayer no longer works in this version. instead you get the error message saying "iplayer content is only available in the uk" which leads one to assume that there is some kind of proxying going on, and the proxy is not in the uk...
if anyone knows how to fix this for skyfire 0.9 please let us know, cheers!
Strauss5 28-08-2009, 06:39 AM That's great, but anyone can tell me that what is benefit of this because i want to start the work.
