View Full Version : Wide, full-screen movie?
CrazedWeasel 21-03-2003, 11:50 PM Hi!
I just got my 3650 this monday, and I already love it.
I'm considering a 128 MB MMC, but I just want to know if this is enough space for a long movie?
And is there a way to play the movie full-screen and flipped sideways so that the cellphone-screen kind of becomes a widescreen? (If you didn't get that, just ignore me and do something else...)
And as long as I'm already babbeling, what other options is there for connecting the 3650 to a PC other than with IR and Bluetooth? I've seen some cables that I think are capable with the 3650, but I'm not sure. Also, the price for these cables are almost the same as the price for a Bluetooth-card.
Oh, and last but not least; any suggestions for video encoding settings?
I appreciate any effort to answer any of this crap :D

1)16 MB are enough in Real Video Format....I tried it!
Turn the phone sideways :D No just joking..
There was VideoMMS for WIND (Italy) that played them fullscreen.
3)No Cables. Full stop
Seremify 22-03-2003, 04:51 AM i can only answer 2.
NO.
Cables are a no.
Seriously.. if there aren't any official cables, don't buy them. the 8310 cables were really really dodgy (as they were cheap 'hacks')..
just buy yourself an IR port (mine was 60aud, or 30usd) and i had to get a 4-port usb hub since i was out of ports (15aud, 7.5usd).
CrazedWeasel 24-03-2003, 11:54 PM There was VideoMMS for WIND (Italy) that played them fullscreen.
So, if I resize a film to lets say 200x84, and flip it around so that the dimensions now are 84x200, this program, VideoMMS, would be able to show it full-screen?
Hope the refresh-rate isn't too bad. If anyone wants to try it, please let me know the results. I haven't got myself the IR/Bluetooth yet, so I haven't been able to try it out for myself...
Speaking of IR/Bluetooth, any favorites - IR/Bluetooth?
Guess cables is not an option, huh? Not even Nokia's cables? (Heard some works with the 3650 too...)
BTW, thanks for helpin' me out :D
EDIT:
Just remembered, I saw some 256 MB MMC's over at eBay. Does the phone support 256 MB?
faquick 25-03-2003, 12:03 AM the WIND program just "flips" the screen, without having to manually flip videos
but if I remember correctly it only plays .MP4 files, and - most important - it plays them ONLY from C: drive; we'd have to wait for the 3650 to be officially released here in italy by WIND operator too, and then we can begin to hope they'll release an updated software
but, with "free and for all" releases of hantro by nokia... I think it would be very hard to see any other "concurrent" programs to be sold by anybody :(
and I think it would be almost impossible to watch a full movie, since the program is doing "scaling" to fit the size, so using a lot of CPU resources; and even realvideo files that are scaled too much aren't played
faquick 25-03-2003, 12:07 AM p.s. about MMC... I am quite sure there are NO MultiMediaCards above 128MB in this world... I searched like a fool in the past month, but never found anything about bigger than 128MB... you can find SD or whatever, but no MMC over 128MB
if any1 could point me to some place where to buy them, I'd be happy to try 'em out :)

CrazedWeasel 26-03-2003, 11:03 PM Has anyone made a bid?
Please tell me. I really want to know how it works :o
How about you, JyriK?
CrazedWeasel 30-03-2003, 10:18 PM but if I remember correctly it only plays .MP4 files, and - most important - it plays them ONLY from C: drive; we'd have to wait for the 3650 to be officially released here in italy by WIND operator too, and then we can begin to hope they'll release an updated software
OK, I tried out VideoMMS, and like you said; ONLY C: drive...
So I tried Hantro 3.3 and T-Mobile, both didn't work... Dunno why...
But if I get them to work (some how) will they be able to play videofiles from other drives than C: ?[/quote]
GhostDog 30-03-2003, 10:58 PM Just a short post.
Optimizing/converting videos for the 3650 (Or any video playback enabled device) can easly be done with PV author.
I'm watching "where the wild roses grow" video on my 7650 right now (About 1MB in size),looks good too.
Get it at: www.pv.com
so, what resolution do you use? and can the video be "flipped" 90 degrees such that a wide screen format is ultilised?
CrazedWeasel 31-03-2003, 12:05 PM :D Thanks GhostDog! I'll check it out...
BTW, how long is that "Where the wild roses grow" of yours?
Ismail 31-03-2003, 12:17 PM i reeeeaaaallllyyyyy hope a 256mb memory comes out and i will definetly get it
just cant wait :multi: :scatter: :onfire:
GhostDog 31-03-2003, 12:20 PM so, what resolution do you use? and can the video be "flipped" 90 degrees such that a wide screen format is ultilised?
I guess that you can do the fliping with some other progie.
Res: 128X96
GhostDog 31-03-2003, 12:21 PM :D Thanks GhostDog! I'll check it out...
BTW, how long is that "Where the wild roses grow" of yours?
I think it lasts about 4 minutes.
Anytime :D
CrazedWeasel 31-03-2003, 12:49 PM It works great! The video files are very small. Perfect! :D
Just too bad it messes up the wide-screen movie format (16:9 to 4:3).
GhostDog 31-03-2003, 01:13 PM Yes it does.
I really want a 3650 right now :D
A buddy of myne actually showed me the matrix film playing fullscreen and he mannaged yto get it down to only 88mg! i dont know about the cables other then use a cable for a diff phone, here is a sneaky trick lol,to take a pic without the shutter sounding just put your phone in silent mode, not that any1 would need to do this ehy ;) .
Im going to amsterdam where im getting a chip and a speaker implanted into my teeth so all i need to do is bite my tongue and i can make a call by flicking my tongue over the corresponding teeth!,dont think old folk will be able to utalise this idea though,i mean i dont think we will ever see pay as u go denchers.sorry am i ranting bollox?...hope the sencible info was of help to ya bud.byee.
The Party Boy 31-03-2003, 03:40 PM where can i find mp4 movies,any link? :)
CrazedWeasel 31-03-2003, 04:06 PM IRVING02, I don't know. I just compress my DivX movies...
Just got Austin Powers - Goldmember down to 22 MB. I'm gonna try to get it down to 16, because I haven't got myself a MMC yet.
Knoxly, good luck in Amsterdam :o
fearce 31-03-2003, 04:46 PM would ne of u lot who make movies small be willing to share them ? because i still dont get how to do it
The Party Boy 01-04-2003, 03:40 AM can someone post the link pls
GhostDog 01-04-2003, 10:40 AM Guys! Guys! :D
Download PVauthor from www.pv.com
And play with it.Well, there is not much to play with. The app is quite user friendly and i think that anyone can manage to compress a movie.
The video i was talking about was 38 MB and got it down to just 1MB.
ok then.. so wiv this i can compress a 700mb movie to fit on a 3650... how big would it be after compression then?
GhostDog 01-04-2003, 04:57 PM ok then.. so wiv this i can compress a 700mb movie to fit on a 3650... how big would it be after compression then?
Well, not on 3650's internal memory, but it could fit on a 64 MB MMC or maybe smaller.
The size after the conversion depends on lots of things, bitrate, resolution, sound codec.
My advice,play with PVauthor.
CrazedWeasel 01-04-2003, 05:15 PM The video i was talking about was 38 MB and got it down to just 1MB.
I got both Goldmember and Ice Age down to about 16 MB (originally about 600-700 MB)! They were about 90 min long. :D
But the audio isn't syncronized with the audio! Can someone help? :-?
BTW, my (CURRENT) settings:
MaleBuffy 01-04-2003, 05:23 PM Try Real Producer....I have Reign of Fire 90mins 15MB.
Obi_Wan 01-04-2003, 07:07 PM Doesn anybody have a link to a site with various .3GP files to download?
What do you use to play .MP4 files on the phone with?
Seremify 02-04-2003, 09:22 AM ... maybe I should write a little FAQ about 3GP files, movies, compressing and the fact u cannot download them as not only are they illegal; but no-one uses 3GP format.
but anyway i'll try to help u here;
1. 3GP is only on Nokia phones (pretty much)
2. Its shit quality compared to DivX or something; which is why people don't use it on PC
3. To make things 3GP u need the Nokia program (or the 3GP program which costs money); and 3GP is really crap quality.
4. It is illegal to have movies for download to begin with; let alone modified (compressed) ones.
5. To Compress them you need that program PVAuthor (or VirtualDub).
jeff.
GhostDog 02-04-2003, 10:40 AM First of all 3GP is not intended for PC,that is why no one uses it.
Its not shit.
Having 3GP,MP4 movies is not illegal.
I have converted AND1 mixtape DVD which i own,so i dont think that having a MP4,3GP copy of something you own would be illegal.
Sharing it,yes.
PVauthor does not convert to 3GP,MP4 only.(I dont know about the sound)
Seremify 02-04-2003, 10:43 AM true "if u own it" but this guy is asking for links to places where he can download the actual videos rather than the s/w to do it himself.
also PVAUTHOR isn't free; get VirtualDub (free).
GhostDog 02-04-2003, 10:57 AM But the audio isn't syncronized with the audio! Can someone help? :-?
Sorry i forgot about you :)
Well, maybe you should try higher bitrate or the AAC codec(I think you need to buy PVauthor if you want to use AAC)
I dont think you need Fixed I-Frames and Random positioning because there is not player that supports it yet.
Try Real Producer....I have Reign of Fire 90mins 15MB
RealMedia format?
MaleBuffy 02-04-2003, 11:02 AM Yep. Real Video 8. Dont remember the settings though. I know that real video 9 doesnt work!
racingboy 02-04-2003, 11:50 AM hi,

fearce 02-04-2003, 02:47 PM yea thts wot id like to knw but i also heard u dont need to once u send it to phone it converts itself by phone is this tru?
racingboy 02-04-2003, 02:49 PM no, that's with a mpeg file, than it coverts to a mp4 file
greetzzz
willbrady 02-04-2003, 02:51 PM AVI's and MPG's are automatically converted into .3gp when you transfer them using PcSuite.
Not tried wmv files.
Thou the conversion is pretty dirty and RealOne plays them quite small with a black border round them.
You get MUCH better quality if you convert them to .rm files yourself.
But for ease of use if you don't want to mess around converting then let PcSuite do it for you..
Best :)
Will
Anietje25 02-04-2003, 03:04 PM the easyest way is multimedia converter pro but the qualitty issent that good
CrazedWeasel 02-04-2003, 03:09 PM how can i convert a windows media player file to rm or mp4?
If your talking about .wmf files, just get them converted to .avi or something, and then I recommend useing pvAuthor or VirtualDub to compress them.
Sorry i forgot about you
Well, maybe you should try higher bitrate or the AAC codec(I think you need to buy PVauthor if you want to use AAC)
Yup. AAC doesn't work. :(
I'll try to use a higher bit-rate, but then agian compressing it to 16 MB is hard...
No way to sync the audio and video?
fearce 02-04-2003, 05:01 PM i see
GhostDog 02-04-2003, 10:25 PM hi,
i have downloaded the PV program and i cant get it work, i can open it an select a movie, but how can i compress???
thanks
greetzzz
Its quite easy actually.
After you select the movie, got to the encoding tab, make the apropriate choices in badwith, codec and codec setings tab, click OK and thjen click Start.
guytp 03-04-2003, 11:35 AM My 7650 won't play a video created by it - tried all kinds of settings.
Just me being dumb or is vid. player different to 3650?
GhostDog 03-04-2003, 03:52 PM What app are you using to play the video?
guytp 03-04-2003, 03:57 PM "Video Recorder Application Version 3.4 (C) Hantro" from Nokia.com
GhostDog 03-04-2003, 04:40 PM I know,same here,i cant play MP4 files on my 7650.
My point is,my little brother rescently got a second hand 7650 which was packed with VideoMMS( i really dont think it is a legal copy)and VideoMMS can play them.
I posted about MP4 player only in the 7650 forum couple of days ago but i got no respones so no MP4 player yet i guess.
hantro video player doesnt play mp4 video neither does the nokia video program only the video mms italian one player both types mp4 and 3gp
GhostDog 03-04-2003, 09:05 PM hantro video player doesnt play mp4 video neither does the nokia video program only the video mms italian one player both types mp4 and 3gp
VideoMMS is based on hantro,so i dont know what you mean by hantro not being able to play MP4 files and if i remember correctly the first ever released video recorder was from T-Mobile(Hantro) and the format was MP4.
Developers,we need a MP4 player.
PS: What about HipCam,what format does it use?
i converted 8 mile to mpeg4, and it's 18mb, but what can i use it for when there is no app that will let me play it from the mmc ( drive e: ).
And watching movies on the mobilephone is one of the coolest things i can imagine, so why isn't this topic sticky?
galinios 08-04-2003, 06:26 PM Have u tried multimedia player??...Or u can convert the file into rm.
what's multimediaplayer, and how do i cinvert into rm?
ivomir 08-04-2003, 08:26 PM I CONVERTING VIDEO IN VIRTUAL DUB.
FIST I RESIZE VIDEO ON 208x176
THEN I ROTATE IT 90degress
But i dont know, how can i convert .avi to .3gp.
I tryed
VirtualDub - i dont have .3gp .nim .rm codec !!!!!
i tryed MPG4 but this shit codec isnt for Mobile Phones - terrible size.
Nokia Multimedia Convertor 2 pro - DOESNT WORK - this shit program can resize my video to smallest size-bleee
Nokia Multimedia Convertor for Nokia 9210 - same as first, program can resize video resolution, but i dont need resizing -bleee
pvAuthor - this shit program cant open video, which has WIDTH smaller than HIGHT -bleee
