After reading that it only takes about an hour to upgrade the operating system, I sent off my 9210 to the Auckland, New Zealand, Nokia Service Centre to upgrade from OS 3.62 to 4.13.

After four days they tell me that the upgrade was not satisfactory and they need to keep my 9210 for a while longer. It seems to me that they do not know what has gone wrong.

How difficult is it to upgrade a 9210 OS?

What could go wrong?

Is whatever has gone wrong likely to affect my 9210 in the future, assuming they can eventually upgrade the phone?

Your comments would be appreciated.
Roger

Worst case scenario would be that it was somehow interrupted half way through. Firmware upgrades of any sort like to be done all at once.

However, it ic just as likely be that the centre is snowed under with work and this is their excuse for not getting the phone back to you.

It's worse than that because the two service centres in Wellington (another city in NZ) are both unable to do the upgrade because of unspecified problems.

How long should the upgrade take normally?

That service centre seems to be giving all sorts of excuses.....the actual upgrade should take less than an hour (about 30-45 minutes, I think).

Maybe it's a licensing issue? Each security dongle has a limited number of licenses to perform upgrades (this is true for 8310s, not sure about older phones like the 9210) and they might have run out...

Or it could be messed up hardware; a friend of mine had a new system module installed in his 7110 for free when the service centre tried to upgrade it, for some odd reason or other.

You could try calling your local Nokia Careline....the ones in Malaysia, at least, will look into complaints about service centres....

Good luck!
