Unable to charge N85
I have a NAM N85. In the last month or so, its been quirky when connected to charge.
  1. When connected using a USB cable to a computer, the pins almost seem to make contact only in one position. If the phone is even moved a millimetre on the desk, the phone seems to think the cable has been disconnected. Changing cables and PCs didn't make a difference.
  2. When using the mains charger that came with the phone, again only in a certain position does it charge correctly. moving it from that position causes it to stop charging. I have tried with a 5800's charger using an adapter to adapt the 5800 charger's prong to the mini USB prong that the N85 accepts. Same results. Note, the same 5800 charger charges the 5800 perfectly.

Being in the US, there is no "care point" a stone's throw away. The only choices seem to be sending it into one of the 3rd parties (Palco or Onsite Cellular Repair) that Nokia contracts with to have the phone repaired.

In the meantime, I have ordered a Momax mains charger in the hope that will help me charge up the BP-5L for the N85. Looks like its time to replace the N85. The C6-01, C7 and E7 haven't yet reached US shores.

The Proporta charger that Steve reviewed a while ago, wouldn't exactly help in this situation since everything seems to point to a problem in the N85's charging socket, rather than the cable or the charger itself.

Any other suggestions to revive or charge the N85?

I know it's not the ideal solution, but how about a cheap charger to charge the battery out side of the phone? You could even buy a spare battery to compliment it so that you always have a 'hot' spare ready to go.....

Cheaper than buying a new phone I suppose....

Steve_R : that's exactly the path I am going down i.e. ordered a Momax charger to charge the BP-5L externally for a few weeks till the E7/C7/C6-01 are available in the US (if ever).
