Using the E6 (Belle) with an CA-157 OTG cable

I've just bought a CA-157 cable and it allowed me to copy pictures from my Canon G9 camera with no trouble. Not intuitively, exactlt, as I had to note down the filenames of the pics I wanted to transfer, but all went smoothly.
However, the process gobbled battery and I got a message saying that my 4GB SD card in a single-card SanDisk USB adapter was using !too much power". Is this a danger signal, or is taking precvautions such as external pwer just fine?
Anybody know? I haven't found a manual for use of OTG cables - does the manual of any specific phone or phones covber the subject in detail?
