P800 Security

I asked a few months ago how one can password protect the P800. Some kind soul pointed me towards the screensaver option which requires a password when re-activating the phone.

However unbelieveably all you have to do to bypass this password protection is to switch the phone off and then back on!!

I've got over 800 contacts with loads of personal details plus loads of other private stuff such as emails, sms's, personal finance sheets etc. I would hate to lose my phone and know that somebody will have access to all my personal information. I've never know a PDA (even the crappiest PocketPC's!) that hasn't had a password protection ability.

Is this an ridiculously stupid oversight by SE??

Squeek.

You can always use the sim lock - thus when the phone is turned on a code has to be entered.....

talking drivel

You can also do a device lock when the phone switches on. Set this from the Phone Preferences menu, then Locks

Handy Day?

I was wondering about locking the phone - I was always reluctant to set up SIM locks, etc. with previous phones, but with my P800 there's a lot more stuff on there I'd be worried about.

What does the Handy Day lock function do exactly?

AFAIK it just locks the keypad after a specified timeout.

Handy day just allows you to lock your keypads so that you will not accidently press any keys while it is in your pocket but I dont take it as a major security function since to unlock all you have to do is press ok and * or jogdial press down then *

No good, just change the SIM and this no longer becomes a problem. No the real answer is to have ALL THREE:

* screensaver lock so if you lose your phone noone can fiddle with it
* Device lock so when someone turns off/on your phone they can't get in before the screen saver (lock) becomes active.
* SIM lock if you don't want someone using your SIM in another phone and making calls on your behalf (and cost)
