N97 v12 Offline Mode & Facebook

Just got back from a weekend trip to Las Vegas where I lost about the cost of a new N900 to the one-armed bandits.

The trip was also an opportunity to test the OFFLINE MODE of the N97.

Frankly, I'm disappointed at the behavior of the Home Screen widgets--what were the programmers thinking?!?

Background--I have Accuweather, Facebook and the Messaging widget live and on my home screen.

1. If you just put the N97 in Offline Mode and forget to put set "Content to offline mode" first--the N97 goes into a two second loop popping up a message saying "Unable to connect to network." If you are fast, you might just be able to quickly set it to offline mode.

2. If you DO remember to set Content to offline mode and then put the N97 into Offline Mode you have a different probelm. When you restore the N97 to Normal mode and Content to Online Mode, you will not be able to open Facebook in full screen mode. Or I should say that when you open it in full screen mode, it will close back down again immediately.

The only way to restore functionality is to reboot.

Oh and ocassionally I would have Facebook give me a "Script Error - please reboot" message.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PROGRAMMERS?!? Why can't they design an application that will look at the mode of the N97 and then decide what to do?

Am I the only one that is finding this out or did everyone else have to cancel their vacation/holiday flying because of the exorbitantly high cost they had to pay for their N97?

Hello,

I'm Cabin Crew so put my phone in and out of offline on a daily basis, I agree with what you say and it is really annoying.

There is a quick way to fix Facebook without a reboot. Press and hold the homescreen widget and when the little menu pops up click Remove, then press and hold the empty space and add it again. Just like rebooting but saves lots of time.

Keiran.

Tried that too, ...that's when I'd get the Script error message.

What do we have to do to get a phone that works as advertised?

I get this all the time as well!!!
It's so annoying... the home screen widgets were one of the N97s selling points, would have thought Nokia would have attempted to ensure it works more consistently before release! FAIL
