Files on Ovi now available in beta

Files on Ovi, which provides access to files on remote computers, is the latest Ovi service and is now available in beta form. After installing a software 'connector' on your PC you can then access files on your computer from any web enabled device (e.g. another PC or your phone). Files on Ovi is the results of last year's acquisition of Avevnu by Nokia.

I thought it's a web service, but it's a service to Microsoft.
"Windows XP/Vista Required" and an "Okay" button only.
No, Nokia, not okay.
How about some standardized access method, like WebDAV?

To be fair its the connector component that is Windows only and Nokia do note their intention to support other platforms... at the end of the day Windows, like it or not, is very dominant in market share terms so inevitably will get supported first.

That said I'd love to see WebDAV - that way you could access it from FP2 devices easily.

Files appears to be a good idea. I could see keeping some files in the clouds.
I really just wish Nokia would finish something with Ovi. They have great ideas but right now in the U.S. then only part of Ovi that actually works is Share.
No music store, no N-Gage, no Maps through Ovi, no synk.
I don't think Nokia will ever break through with the wireless providers in the U.S. particularly AT&T. Nokia may as well continue to sell high end phones unlocked to this market, but if they want their market share to grow they will need the infrastructure behind the phone. They need to be able to show the customer not only a very cool looking, feature laden well made phone, they need to be able to say, and look at all the cool programs (Ovi) we have created for you to use with your new phone. All of that comes with your new Nokia phone.
