There has been one firmware update released for the N95-3 NAM. It was released in late May or June. I have not updated my phone to it so I cannot comment on it.
The earlier European version had more updates because it had more issues to resolve, in my opinion.

Question

Is that the update that makes the phone slower???...i heard that some place that if you update to the latest one for 8gb NAM the phone gets "slower".....and do the NAM N95 8GB's have the "loose slider" like the classic N95's?

No the nam is not slower. The -3 finally got the good firmware update. And the -4 has the latest firmware too. My -4 had a loose slider but i fixed it in 5 minutes and its been rock solid ever since. All n95s are the same now.

python is a software that many writers are developing apps for. it allows them to code very easily and quickly. python is the latest thing i've gotten into on my 8GB cause there's so much cool stuff coming out from the python app writers lately. made me totally into my phone again. its free just search and install the python app and script shell or whatever its called. so 2 things you need to install. i find all that stuff and the python installers over at symbian-freak.com in the forums. TONS of stuff over there, go check it out. i also use howardforums.com in the s60 forum for all the n95 info and help you could ever want. of course allaboutsymbian is my top reading too!!

but the majority of the n95 apps are just regular apps out there, not related to python.

for the slider fix, i used the video on youtube to guide me on taking apart the phone. but instead of using the tape trick like the video shows, i bent the metal tabs on the end of each metal rail, and the slider was so tight i couldnt even open it at first! a slight adjustment, and perfecto so you can make that thing solid as you wish.

for simplicity, just use the tape at first if that makes it easier for you. either way, the entire fix is super easy unless you really are not mechanically inclined. oh and the full tutorial is at www.n95users.com.

One thing about latest firmware for the N95-3 NAM version-No ASR (Screen auto Rotation) some genius decided North American users did not need this enhancement. I tried installing Rotate Me app from Samir but cannot due to a issue I can't seem to figure out. I installed this fine on two other N95-2 and N95-4. This is a cool app.

that is the n95-4 with the original firmware. there is an update to v20 something, but it doesnt add anything new so i didnt even update my phone. i would just stick with your current firmware unless you want to have the latest and you didnt customize your phone yet, so you wont lose much doing the update now. i was too lazy to update mine at the time...
