Try Xilisofts DVD Ripper Platinum, it handles almost any file you throw at it
I have used it to convert TV series to mp4 for my N95 8GB and it works as a sharm and is REALY fast 2.

Sadly it isn't.

I'd still like to know whether Super should support VOB files or not, and if it does why I'm getting the error. Thanks.

Isn't a .vob file basically just a .avi file? If you replace the extension it plays like one, anyway.

Why dya think I keep getting the error? It's of Spiderman 3, copied from a DVD of it that I bought from HMV. I used DVDShrink, and had AnyDVD running in the background to remove the copy protection.

VOB files are basically MPEG-2 (i think) so these won't play natively on the N95. If you want the best quality video for your phone you're going to have to do it manually. If you have the time - head to doom9.org and have a look at their conversion guides using Gordian Knot. This will produce the best quality rips but will take some practice. If you can't be bothered with all this - have a look for MediaCoder. Has a lot of codecs built in and also has various profile options for mobile devices / games consoles.

I spent an evening with MediaCoder, which is also free, and have come to the conclusion that it's much better than Super for converting DVDs for the N95. It gets the aspect ratio right and doesn't throw up as many errors. If you have a simple 4:3 clip, you can just set the iPod 'extension' (320x240, ASP). For a 16:9 DVD (already decrypted) I set the following:

audio...
Nero encoder, 24kHz

video...
Format XviD
Container MP4
800kb/s

picture...
Set aspect ratio as appropriate (it's written on the back of the DVD box). 16:9 is equivalent to 480:272. As a bonus, this is just about watchable using TV-out.

If you set the audio to something realistic (eg 24kHz bitrate) then it stays in sync with the picture when you play it back.

These settings reduce a 1GB DVD file to around 170MB.

I've had absolutely no success with H.264/AVC: my N95-1, v20 firmware, just won't play the video and I get sound only.

Good stuff. I am reading clonedvd mobile works very good and will try it and your method when I get home. If you were converting Transfoermers what aspect ratio will use to have it fullscreen?

If you want it to fill the screen, set it to 320x240. If you want it to retain the aspect ratio so that people don't look all squashed, set it to whatever it says it is on the back of the DVD box.

Xilisoft DVD Ripper Platinum PSP settings

After a few tries I am using:
PSP-PSP MPEG-4-Excellent Quality (*.mp4)

VIDEO:

Video Codec: xvid
Video size: 320x240 (changed from the original 368x208)
Bit rate: 768
Frame Rate: 29.97
Aspect: auto
Same quality: false

AUDIO:

Audio codec: mpeg4aac
Bit rate: 64
Sample rate: 24000
Channels: 2
Disable audio: false

OTHER:

Zoom: full

Important note: after I copied the file to my N95 it won’t play. To be able to play the files my N95 needs to be rebooted.

For me the quality is good enough for a few hours at the airport or on a plane.

Don’t forget to save your settings to be used again…
