Question Using an external BT GPS device over internal one possible?

Hi,

Sorry one last question from me today !

I have an cheap external GPS device that I was
using with the Nokia 9500. I was much better
than the build-in one on the E90 (much faster,
could sync indoors etc).

I've managed to get it paired up to the phone, but
can't see options to get the Nokia Maps or Google
Maps to use this device instead of the built-in one.

Has anyone figured this out?

Thanks,
Adrian.

First thing to do is check that Bluetooth GPS has been enabled.

Go into Tools/Settings/General/Positioning/Positioning methods

In there you should see a list of possible GPS systems
(I see Assisted GPS, Bluetooth GPS, Integrated GPS and Network based with the 7.40 firmware)

Use the OK button or Options soft key to ensure that Bluetooth GPS is enabled and has a big red tick by it.

Hi Matchstick,

Thanks very much - that's exactly what I wanted.
The external device was about $100 on ebay and
is 1/4 the size of the phone so not much more to
shove in the backpack.. I highly recommend
it to anyone using their phone for nav with google
maps... the improvement in speed and accuracy is
10 fold.

Regards,
Adrian.

I have tried this (and made sure no tick by the internal GPS) but it always uses the internal GPS. My bluetooth GPS never links (no blue led on the GPS).
Any ideas? Firmware 7.40

Hi all.
2 questions.....1) Do I need to uncheck the other options and just leave the bluetooth GPS checked?
2) Will it then work with the navteq Nokia maps?
Thanks.I appreciate any and all help,as I am a recent X7500 owner, and all this is new to me...LOL
Later..........

On my E90 I have discovered that if I have Assisted GPS ticked then this overrides all the other settings and forces the internal GPS to be active.

And when it connects using a-GPS it always cost money from your dataplan...

But to be on topic, I worked to connect a bluetooth GPS receiver and use it for TomTom, the internal GPS was not used.

I've set my E90 to use bluetooth gps only, so far seems to work fine with Nokia maps and the Nokia Sportracker application.
