I have installed tomtom on my N96

I have installed tomtom on the N96

ver TomTom.Mobile.v6.02.S60v3.SymbianOS9.1.

copy the tomtom directory to the mass storage (this is the only directory besides Maps directory to be copied to mass storage)

In the tomtom directory appears to be all the voice files

So yea , not like previous versions where there is directories like voices , raster , private , etc ...

and copied over the maps directory to the mass storage ,

fired it up and it worked ! with external bluetooth gps ...

I found a patch that apparently worked on the n95 for internal gps
the two files for the patch are 1.btsisx and 2.gpsd.jar

apparently on the n95 after your install 1.bt.sisx it should come up with
device added and then u install and run the second file in the background .

but on my phone after installing 1bt.sisx i got installed not device added!!
so it did not work to add a fake bt device for tomtom needs to be patched for n96 .

but the second file did utilise the gps and gave my gps position readouts and seems promissing .

I just thought id share my experiences .

Hi Sam, i have installed TomTom on my n96 and it works ok using a external gps but when i enter a destination post code i get a delay on putting in the post code letters/numbers, it makes it a bit of a pain but i do get there in the end, i wondered if you get the same problem?

i have also installed tomtom 6 on my n96 and have the same problem when trying to enter a post code or address, i am using a nokia LD-3W gps reciever and the n96 lose's signal sometimes, tomtom 6 worked better (but not perfecty) on my n95 and n95 8gb, at least i could enter a postcode or address on the earlier phones quite easy!

yea sometimes i get a delay , especially after first the app .

After it warms up seems to be better , working fine with external gps,
there should be a patch i hope for internal gps in the future .

Delbert are you installing the same version i have mentioned ?
Install the app , copy tomtom dir to mass media root , copy map dir to mass media root, with 6.02 v675 maps worked for me .

Did you run the application that gets installed by 1st.sisx? It's a while since I got this running on my N95, but I think it installs an app which you run - the app then installs the fake BT device. You can then un-install the app if you desire.

yea tried that one but tomtom did not launch at all and 1.bt.sisx installed but did not say device added .

So i found another one as stated in my first post that worked fine on external gps , that sisx will have to be modified by creator to work on n96.

Good evening gents

Firstly thanks for all the useful tips and guidence.

Well it looks like the version I have TomTom-NAVIGATOR_S60_3_0_v_6_0_1_7640_PA.sis is different for a start.

This is what I have tried so far.

Got a new blank memory card to which I coppied all the original TT6 files from the original TomTom memory card.

I Plugged the new memory card it into my N96 and hey presto the installer ran up and apeared to finish sucessfully.

Next I could not locate an icon to run it, there was nothing in the Applications section of the phone.

No big deal off to the application manager next, yep listed there.
The application manager confirmed that it was installed correctly.
A point to note was the TomTom listing in App Manager had a red dot on it.

So like an idiot I promptly and accidently hit the uninstall button so now aparently it is uninstalled.

I am unable to reinstall it no matter what I do.

Please help me, what can I do?

Regards
Delbert

re: Polly

Yes, mine is very slow to respond when entering post-codes, much slower than when it was running on the N95.

I'm putting this down to the slower processor on the N96

re: boozencourt

This is how I got it to work on my N96.

Huge speed improvement when using F/W 12.035

As above, I'm seeing a huge speed improvement with TomTom when using F/W 12.035.

It appears to be running faster than it did on the N95 now.

... very interesting.

Is it possible to add the fake bluetooth device by hand?
Because the bt.sisx doesn't work on my N85, there just isn't anything happening when i start/open bt.sisx.
