The Nokia N97 gets v22 firmware
The (unbranded) Nokia N97 'classic' was updated today, to firmware version 22.0.110, available right now Over The Air, as a 5MB download. The previous firmware version was v21.0.102. Version 22 is a significant update because it includes Ovi Maps 3.3 with the free navigation, saving the user from having to use up 10MB+ of the precious system disk C: for this. More below.

"Default Nokia tune is played as ringing tone for incoming calls instead of the one user has defined in Profile settings. Also sometimes device ahs stopped alerting for incoming calls. Both issues are now fixed."
At last!

Shut off the phone and the restart it while keeping the green, red, camera shutter and power buttons pressed as the phone reboots. Hold this till you see the connecting hands of Nokia.

Is a hard reset a must? I have a number of apps installed on C and somehow am not feeling like going through the pain of re-installing and re-configuring everything. Its more than couple of hours for me atleast. :(

Why cant Nokia ever include the latest version of the applications in its firmwares? What's the point of having v3.3 of Maps in the firmware when we all know that v3.4 has been available since a while now and is the one to have.

You should be able to claim the space back by removing Ovi Maps and Nokia Maps from the Application manager. Or it may be that the act of installing Over The Air applies a wizard that does this anyway - check your free space, install the update and see? Data points most definitely welcomed!!

Because firmwares have to be checked to a high degree. And this takes time, usually around 6 weeks. Which means that anything released, practically, in the last three months is probably a no-go, allowing for planning and integration time.
These things are always more complicated than they appear!

Not for the N97. For the N97 and mini, you have to hold shift, space and backspace to initialise hard reset. Not available on NSU from the looks of it as Navifirm is not showing the new firmware for either the RM-505 and RM-555 ;/

Apps install after hard reset
Steve,
What's the best way to install your apps after a hard reset, as apps bought from the OVI store can only be downloaded 5 times?
Thanks

5 times? Isn't that enough? Mind you, I do with the Ovi Store people would up that limit.... very annoying.
Personally, for all apps that I can, I grab them from developer sites instead (when I buy) and I then keep the original SIS files on my desktop etc. And/Or memory card.
