Mock screenshot from the ultimate 7650 app.

Ok, heres the application i've been begging someone to create for months. Features include:
[list]An "at a glance" look at your day/week ahead.

Quick access to four of your most used applications.

A summery of new MMS, EMail and SMS messages waiting to be opened.

Replacement of the boring standby screen / Cycled with Menu & Nokia standby

Small footprint[/list:u]

Have a look at it, imagine how good it would be, then answer:

Would you pay for this program?

If I can find intrest amongst the 7650 userbase, then that will surely help me convince a talented coder to write the application.

Isn't Active Desk pretty exactly the same thing you're describing here?

or for more info in familiar settings go to:

translators (other than english) seem to be wanted for it...

Well....

Active Desk is bloatware, it takes up a lot of memory and you have to scroll accross tabs to get basic information. Great if you like that sort of thing but I dont.

The 'Today' app in the post above: Yep, seen it, installed it, used it, sent an email to the author describing some 'improvments' but he may not be intrested in doing a full scale application. I don't think many people will pay for his program as it is at the mo though. Nice piece of software but you could just open your calendar rather than use it.

There is a thread similar to this one in the Symbian C++ forum (Ok, the same thread). Look at Any coder's fancy a little challenge?. Talk2sk did say that he will look at it. Don't know when, since he appears to be a bit busy at the moment. Maybe somebody else will be willing to code this app.

Omar_g, That mock screenshot looks great, nice and clean interface. This is just what we need to quickly check for messages etc. Of course for this to be really useful you will need to write in a routine to disable the screen saver.

By comparison, the today app linked here look cluttered and awkward.

Go for it!

I don't see any use for that kind of application.

1. When you have unread messages, you already see an indicator and note in standby mode.

2. For most used applications you can always organize your Menu grid.

3. If there are unread message count and those icons in same screen there is not much space for the today events list.

But you cannot tell at a glance how many unopened messages you have if you have removed the message once already. There is not indication of waiting Email's either.

You could, but if you can access them quickly and easily from the main screen then why not?

My screenshot is just a mock up for illustration's sake; the font sizes could be fiddled with depending on the number of appointments you have. The user could also specify whether or not the waiting messages field was needed.

Have you used a PocketPC or seen the screenshots from the SPV? Most people argee, Anti-Microsoft and all, that the Today screen is one of their best achievements. The only reason you dont see it on other platforms is because they've patented all of the XML coding behind it. I propose a simple application based on the best parts of the Microsoft design.

all true
no offence meant simeon but if the developers or joycalc and joykick thought like this then those apps would not exist, meaning lots (well not many) more navigating around the screen.

Anything to make functions/features more accessible are welcome IMO
and that screen with a little tidying up will look better than the rivals and provide more features from the first screen

rather than finding flaws, why not try and correct them or suggest improvements :P

I for one love Active Desk! It's by far my most used app, since I keep it running all the time. Can't remember the last time I actually used the main-menu....

Yeah, maybe I was a little scathing in my comments on it.

While I can see its uses, I just think it crams too much into one product. (Not often something i'd complain about, but with only 3.6mb of memory...)

If there was an option to:

Replace the standby screen with it
If it showed battery life
Allowed user definable softkeys
Had your next appointment on the first page,

I'd buy it 10 times over. It's so close, but so far!

My 300th post! Damn i'm addicted!
