VLC media player for Symbian S60 (Vote on S60.com)
Everyone vote for this wish on S60.com to fully port the VLC Media Player to the S60 platform, if you want universal A/V playback on your mobile devices. VLC is open source and it leaves (almost) no audio or video codec behind.

Well yes, it's a great idea. But... don't you think it's somehow oversized? And who is going to do the port? As you mention, VLC is open source, which in this case means that there is no company and no funding behind the project.
We would need a bunch of great programmers to do the work... or will Nokia and the others behind s60.com make it? If so, the open source licence of VLC might even be a problem, because they (Nokia et al.) might not want their VLC to be free and open source too.
(But all that is no reason not to vote.  )

It's really good news as i was using VLC media player for watching movies and listening songs on my laptop from last few months.. and i found the application extremely good one.
