How to close tasks quickly

This was a major breakthrough for me, so I thought I'd share it:

When you press and hold the white led button and it brings up the pop-up screen (showing active tasks / apps), if you want to end any of the tasks just press and hold that task's logo and a wee additional pop-up will appear with the option to exit the task.

It's great! I used to have to go into each task and close it the long way.

NB This may only work with v40 firmware, I suppose.

Smile Task Killing

I don't know which device you are using , but in general S60 works like this when you like to finish tasks :
1) When you have an application open , just press red ("end call ") button , the tasks will be killed .
2) Long press Home/Menu button : a popup shows the Multitasking . Highlight the desired task and press C/Backspace button .
Done ! Except maybe for devices lacking the buttons ?

Hi jApi, I forgot to say, it's a 5800 I use.

That's good advice about the red button. I was wondering why all the apps would require me to open Options then have to scroll to show the exit option. This'll be much easier now!

Smile Red Button

Another function of the red button : at booting up , after the code typing , press and you will arrive instantly in Home screen . No wake up candies at start-up .

yes ALL s60 phones are like this, you press and hold the menu button to see running apps in the background. you really should install handy taskman, as it makes this experience much better. handy taskman is absolutely the FIRST app to get installed on every s60 phone i've ever owned. yes its that good and necessary.

Smile JBakTaskman

I use JBakTaskman for this purpose . It is a free app made by Juriy Bakunin . Excellent IMHO

In my case when I press the red button the application does no exit. It stays in the background. The menu-exit option really exits the app.

NocturnalOne, me too,it seems to depend on the app.

For example, the red button just minimises Opera mini but kills "Sticky Notes" app completely (and straight away, without saving changes).

I suspect Opera is a java app and Sticky Notes isn't but that's just a wild guess.

the general rule with symbian is that the red end key kills the app. however the default web browser only minimizes from the red end key. and a few other random apps might minimize as well. but in general the end key kills the app completely.

anytime you want to minimize an app to the background, just double tap the menu key. that always minimizes everything to the background and displays the homescreen for you.
