Presenting the Cityman 450 anti-theft device for the Nokia N97

Nokia's sent us one of their Cityman 450 anti-theft units designed for the Nokia N97, and we have to say it's quite an impressive job. Absolutely no one will want to steal your phone once you've put this little beauty into action. Find out more below...

I want one! Finally the N97 will have the sort of casing in keeping with its actual ability

Wow, and I though the E90 was a weapon. The Cityman 450 will knock wrongdoers to the ground! This is much better than having LL Cool J coming out and sing the "Momma Knock You Out!" video...

There's only 1 LL Cool J to knock people out, just not enough to go around.. With Cityman 450 even average Joes and phone-geeks can knock wrongdoers out. =)

Seeing how all the Nokia and Symbian based sites and blogs are getting this, soon we will know who has an N97 from the large brick they are carrying around (yes I meant the Cityman and not the N97 itself )

Poor old Nokia N97, absolutely superb phone but doesn't get the credit it deserves because its UI isn't slick enough.

They should get Chuck Norris to endorse this, especially as he's just got an Ovi Store game out:

Yeah, slight flaw in the plan... :-D

I don't think many of us will be actually using this though, might go in the souvenir box.

What's that got to do with the Cityman 450? :-)

genius

would be great also if this contained rechargable stereo speakers, so you could then play retro miami vice style 80's tunes from your n97!

Watched some Miami Vice repeated recently, they featured mobile phones quite heavily it seems. Must have been quite a status symbol back then along with fast cars and huge shoulderpads.

That's what I thought when I opened the package... :-)

I don't think Nokia have any intention of actually manufacturing this though, it's definitely a limited edition run purely for publicity purposes.

The software component is kinda neat. It even replicates the old-fashioned sound of a "brick" phone.

How about some anti theft measures? Maybe a fingerprint reader to remove the N97 it or a motion detector.

It's real in the sense that they really did send us this unit, and they sent it to a number of other sites too. And the software is real too, you can download it onto your own N97 from the URL in the photo above.

However, Nokia probably won't manufacture this on a large scale, it's just a bit of fun.

So yes it is a joke... :-)

A motion detector app would be very easy to do, it would just measure if the phone's accelerometer was reading anything above normal levels. Not sure how that would tell who is the real owner though...
