Thumbs up A925 Service Provider Display

I got an A925 from Australia and using it with Cingular in the US. I'm wondering if there is a way to display the Service provider name (as applicable). This will be really helpfl for me when I'm roaming and I fall into another SP region (lest not getting bitten by the huge roaming charges).

Also my current phone has Three service provider specific apps (initial splash display, voicemail on first page etc). How can I get rid of them.

Thanks,
Coowboy.
