maybe worth checking nokia software updater to see if v12 is available for your product code.....

if not, you could change the product code ( i used euro 1 on mine after confirming it had access to V12 via NSU)

what is your product code at the minute (under battery)

your current software
N96
RM-247
CTR INDIA CV DG
0572321

only uses 11.018

maybe worth changing your product code via NSS to
N96
RM-247
CTR INDIA LATIN DARK GREY
0543700

as this shows as 12.043 on the NSU.

I do not take responcibility for your actions on this, am only advising what other india based version has firmware v12 available....

i have supplied a full list of official nokia product codes into the sticky thread.....

there is also a "how to" guide somewhere on this.....

basically,
  • download and install an application called nemesis service suite (NSS)
  • connect your phone with the suplied usb lead
  • launch the NSS and click the magnifying glass
  • click on "scan"
  • click on "phone info"
  • on the right side, click the "scan" button and your Product Code will appear in the top box
  • replace this with your desired code (in this case 0543700) then tick "enable" box
  • click on "write"
  • when complete unplug phone and exit NSS

once this is done, switch of your handset, leave for 10 seconds, switch back on.

now run the nokia software updater and your phone should update to v12.043....

as i have said, this is done at your own risk, ut this is how i succesfully did my own.

You will invalidate your warranty if you change the product code.

yes, the exact same way which you changed it above to the newer one....

network providers can be funny about the change in product code, but its rare that a nokia service centre will actually decline to repair it as its there own codes and firmware....

Changing it back does NOT make any difference, since the first change will have been logged.

So if you change it at all, you will lose warranty.

This is true and has been verified by engineers that work in Nokia service centers. And at least one person on this forum has had his phone refused even though he had changed it back.

The service centers will repair it as long as Nokia pay them for it, but the minute it starts being refused (and some are being), then you will see them all follow suit.

Its up to you, changing the product code is a gamble.

It really depends on the firmware version on the phone if you take it in for repair

For example, if you have changed product code and updated from V11 to V12 then change code back, then the firmware on the phone is higher than the version approved for that phone, if you then take the phone for repair it will be refused.

However if the approved version of the software is the same, ie both product codes are V12, and you have changed product code back to original, then you shouldn't have a problem getting it repaired.
