Thank you for your email dated 16 November 2005, which was addressed to Mr
Sanjiv Ahuja, Chief Executive Officer, Orange. I have been asked by Sanjiv
to respond on his behalf and keep him informed of all actions taken.

I regret to learn that you are dissatisfied because of 'Orange
HomeScreen'. However, we install our own software to ensure that all
phones are compatible with the Services offered by Orange, such as Line 2,
and have no current plans to remove it.

We do not consider that our software hinders the use of our phones and as
such would not offer to remove it. If a customer wishes to do this at
their own cost then they can do so but this may affect their warranty if
it is found that the removal has damaged the phone.

We do offer customers the option of purchasing phones without our software
as they can purchase 'generic' phones from independent dealers, however,
the majority of 'generic' phones are not covered by Care and customers
would need to purchase Insurance from an independent company - they would
still be covered by the Manufacturer for their warranty.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for taking the time to
share your views with us. I assure you that they have been included in my
report, which the Board of Directors have access to and can view at any
stage. This information has also been fed back to our Business Improvement
Team who will in turn forward your comments to the relevant Process
Management Groups for their monthly review.

Whilst I appreciate that this may not be the response that you
anticipated, I trust that it addresses all of your concerns.

Yours sincerely

Twat
Executive Assistant

Which is the same email that has been sent to EVERYONE who emailed the exec office.

now THAT response sucks the sweat of a dead mans...

(i don't know what it means sir, but it sounds pretty negative to me!)

i'd have blown a * gasket if that had been * sent to me... you're a * CUSTOMER for * sake!!!

my feeling is that Orange have invalidated a bloody good phone and getting it flashed WON'T invalidate the warranty but actually validate it by making the phone more solid and functional.

* *'s!

*=insert expletive of choice if desired

I had my Orange 6630 flash by a NSC and they screwed it up. It failed to work with any of their data services afterwards. Then orange refused to replace it for 6 weeks on the grounds it was a s/w upgrade that had knackered it and that wasn't covered by the Orange insurance. I complained alot and because I'm a heavy internet user they swapped it.

To add insult to injury the 6630 they replaced it with was running the stupid redesigned front end (V4.03.40) which prevented any of the previous key shortcut programming that the Version 2.x allowed as well as rendering many of the funky themes irrelevant by removing the theme image that appeared at the top level of the UI with some naff sand dunes.

The only other provider I have experienced is Vodafone. I have a K700i for work and its functionally a pretty similar phone. Vodafone have put an extra 'Theme' option under the wallpaper menu and the cursor button can still be customised. I used to love my 6630 before Orange spoilt it!

I wanted to go for the N70 with Orange but now doubt I will.

You should still be able to get the theme from those sites, look for "XP SP2 full version" However I created the wall paper for that theme myself, it's just a cut and paste job from Window's own bliss.jpg.

To be fair, Orange have listened to all the whining... as of V5.0616.2.0.3 the Orangised N70 now has the option to switch off the Orange HomeScreen. The N80 on Orange never had the HomeScreen installed in the first place.
