The first handheld video game adaptation of Klaus Teuber's The Settlers of Catan, published by Capcom (their sole N-Gage title) and developed by Suzak. Players collect resources by dice roll, build roads, settlements and cities, and compete to dominate the island of Catan across a Quest mode of 16 missions or multiplayer for up to four players via Bluetooth or N-Gage Arena.
The N-Gage version predated the better-known Xbox Live Arcade adaptation by nearly two years — that version, developed by Big Huge Games, launched in May 2007 and became the first German-style board game on Xbox Live Arcade. The N-Gage edition featured distinctive Japanese pop-art illustrations by Susumu Matsushita and ten characters each with unique personalities, giving it a visual identity quite different from the physical board game. Capcom's involvement was unusual — this was their only N-Gage title — and the developer Suzak was a Japanese studio best known at the time for racing games on GameCube and PS2. A Capcom-branded physical edition of the actual board game featuring Matsushita's artwork was also produced for the Japanese market.
