A port of Sonic Advance for the Game Boy Advance, developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega as one of the N-Gage's launch titles in October 2003. Players guide Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, or Amy through five zones across two acts each, collecting rings and Chaos Emeralds to foil Dr Eggman, with each character offering distinct movement abilities.
The N-Gage's portrait-oriented 176×208 screen was a fundamental mismatch for Sonic Advance's horizontally-scrolling gameplay: full-screen mode compressed the image so severely that players could barely see what lay ahead, while the alternative letterboxed view left much of the display wasted. The Tiny Chao Garden mini-game and multiplayer modes present in the GBA original were stripped entirely. The frame rate ran below the GBA version, and critics were uniform in recommending the GBA original over this port. IGN scored it 6.0/10 and GameSpot 5.6/10 (Metacritic: 56/100), making SonicN one of the lowest-rated N-Gage launch titles despite the franchise's popularity.
