AAN Review Score ›
A snowboarding game developed by Exient Entertainment and published by EA Sports Big, adapted from the console title SSX 3 for N-Gage and the short-lived Gizmondo handheld. Players choose from ten characters across twelve tracks spanning race and slopestyle modes, with trick-based scoring and character progression via gear purchases.
Exient Entertainment built the game on an original 3D engine rather than porting the console code directly, making SSX Out of Bounds one of the more technically ambitious N-Gage titles. Its Shadow Racing mode allowed players to download ghost lap data from N-Gage Arena and race against the recorded runs of other players worldwide — an early form of asynchronous online competition rarely seen on handheld devices in 2005. The Gizmondo version launched several months later in August 2005. Reception was uneven: 1Up.com gave 8.5/10 and IGN 7.5/10, while GameSpy rated it just 2/5; Metacritic settled at 69/100. All About N-Gage's Ewan reviewed it favourably at 85/100, calling it a must-have.
