A Diablo-style fantasy action-RPG developed by Polish studio Tannhauser Gate exclusively for the N-Gage, set in the world of Lorath — a land under assault by the forces of a fallen god. Players choose from five character classes and can team up or compete with up to three others via Bluetooth.
Gates of Chaos was conceived as a prequel to The Roots, an ambitious PC and Xbox RPG that Tannhauser Gate had been developing since 2003 under publisher Cenega. The console game suffered repeated delays and was ultimately cancelled outright by Cenega, which cited unspecified development issues; the N-Gage prequel became the only released title in the franchise. Tannhauser Gate, based in Wrocław, Poland, had previously developed Mimesis Online — Poland's first MMORPG, launched in 2002 — before that service shut down in March 2005. Gates of Chaos shipped in August 2005, and the studio itself closed the following month, July 2005, when their publisher relationship collapsed. It stands as one of a small number of N-Gage titles published by a Central or Eastern European label, and the only title in a franchise that otherwise never reached shelves.
