Tetris
This is Tetris, and as someone once said, if you haven't heard of Tetris you must be either dead, very close to dead, or living in Peterborough (and probably an estate agent). This version of Tetris includes several playing modes featuring different kinds of gameplay.
How To Get It:
You can download Tetris from Ovi Store by selecting your phone's Ovi Store icon, or by going to store.ovi.mobi on your phone's web browser.
Alternatively you can go to store.ovi.com on your computer's browser.
If you can't see the game displayed on Ovi Store, it probably isn't compatible with your phone model.
For more info about using Ovi Store, see our Unofficial Ovi Store FAQ page.
Ovi Gaming Review:
Phone Used For Review - Nokia N97 (games may be different on different phone models)
Gameplay - Tetris is almost certainly familiar to everyone reading this, but in case you don't know it the idea is to form horizontal lines by manipulating falling blocks. This version of Tetris has three main modes, Marathon (score as many points as possible while forming 150 lines), Ultra (score as many points as possible in two minutes) and 40 Lines (create forty lines as quickly as possible). There are also various options such as ghosting (where you can see where your falling block will land) and vibration effects. Bizarrely, you're supposed to choose a playing mode by starting the game and then quickly selecting the mode change option before a timer runs out. Why didn't they just add the game types as options on the main menu?
Graphics - There's really nothing that special here, the playing area and blocks look almost identical to classic Tetris and nothing stands out graphically.
Sound - Anyone who has been addicted to the Game Boy version of Tetris will be excited to hear the familiar Tetris theme start up as you enter the game, and then disappointed as it dies away almost immediately. The actual game has no music at all, and just a few boring sound effects. Why didn't they keep the music from 1980s Tetris?
Multiplayer & Online - None.
Overall - To some extent Tetris is review-proof, people who like Tetris will buy this game purely because of the brand it carries, while those who don't like it will avoid it for the same reason. In general this is an okay version of the game, but there's nothing hugely new here. The three game modes add a nice variety to the playing styles, but it would have been even nicer to see some variation of this very familiar genre. The controls of the game work just as well on touchscreen and non-touch phones, and screen size isn't an issue either, so everyone can enjoy this game equally whatever model phone they have.
Score - 60%
