Ovi Gaming Review:

Phone Used For Review - Nokia N97 (games may be different on different phone models)

Gameplay - Tower Bloxx has two main forms of gameplay: a core arcade game where you have to drop blocks on top of each other to create a skyscraper, and a simple strategy/puzzle game where you have to arrange these skyscrapers in a city in order to maximise the population. Dropping a block absolutely straight onto the previous one starts a bonus countdown which adds to your score and the tower's population. Dropping another block within that countdown increases the bonus score multiplier, encouraging the player to drop many blocks in short succession, which forms the heart of the gameplay for experienced players.

Graphics - The original Tower Bloxx had 2D or simple 3D graphics with a fixed camera showing the tower growing. The Deluxe version of the game instead emphasises the 3D element much more strongly with more complex 3D models and a moving camera that swings about to remind you that the game is in 3D. Rather frustratingly, the N97 version of this game only seems to work in half-screen mode and Ovi Gaming's recommended full-screen fix procedure didn't help in this case. The frame rate isn't too good either, though you can improve this by upgrading to the latest version of Java by selecting your phone's built-in "Software Update" icon (note that this is something totally different to the PC Software Updater app).

Sound - There's a proper soundtrack to the game made up of MIDI tunes, which is generally nice but the tune during the quick game is a bit depressing.

Multiplayer & Online - None.

Overall - The gameplay of Tower Bloxx Deluxe is basically the same as ordinary Tower Bloxx but the graphics have been altered. However, this change of graphics doesn't really help the gameplay at all, in fact the movement of the camera actually makes it more difficult to judge the drops. You'd probably be better off playing the original version of the game instead, which looks a bit worse but is more fun to play.

Score - 69%
