Ovi Gaming Review:

Phone Used For Review - Nokia N97 (games may be different on different phone models)

Gameplay - Wallace & Gromit Adventures is in many ways a throwback to the good old days of 8-bit gaming in the 1980s, when this kind of collect-em-up platform game was perhaps the most common genre on the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64. You have to guide Wallace around his house collecting cheese (of course!), machine parts and plans. The twist is that you can build gadgets to help you progress once you've collected enough parts and found the correct plans for a particular gadget, so for example if you find the pogo stick plans you can build one and reach higher platforms.

Graphics - This is a 2D platformer with fairly detailed graphics that use the full resolution of the phone. It's interesting that they've opted for a more photographic look rather than cartoony graphics, perhaps because the actual W&G films are photographed rather than drawn.

Sound - A MIDI version of the familiar W&G theme is there at the start of the game, and there are occasional musical sound effects when you collect items or for other events.

Multiplayer & Online - None.

Overall - In a way Wallace & Gromit would be more suited to a gadget-oriented genre, it would have been nice to see a Wallace-ified version of The Incredible Machine for example. W&G Adventures is basically just a standard platform game with graphics from the Wallace & Gromit films transplanted into it. It's been done very well, and even the menu screens look nice with that gnome in the corner, but this just doesn't feel true to the spirit of the licence and it isn't a particularly memorable game in itself either. There's nothing particularly wrong with W&G Adventures, but nothing stands out either. It's average.

Score - 60%
