How can I restore my 9500 backup to my new 9300?

Q. I recently had a chance to buy a Nokia 9300 for a nice price from a friend. I already had a Nokia 9500, which I'd backed up regularly. How can I restore my backup from the 9500 to the 9300? I tried but there seems to be no option to do this, as PC Suite doesn't let me select the 9500 backup file when I have 9300 connected.

A. There is a hack whereby you rename your PC backup folder to 'Nokia 9300' and then restore, but there's a simpler and easier way still. On the Nokia 9500, make sure you have (up to) 80MB free on your memory card. Then, in Desk, use 'Tools | Backup/Restore' and press 'New backup'. When complete, move the memory card to your 9300 and use 'Tools | Backup/Restore' again, this time pressing 'Restore'. One word of warning though. If the 9500 had quite old firmware, restoring its system files to the much newer 9300 may cause a few performance problems. But this restore trick may work fine and will certainly save you a lot of time.
