905i Range
Across the 905i range there are a range of standard features:
- 3G (HSDPA) / GSM cellular connectivity which means the phones can be used globally (in contrast to many Japanese phones).
- One-sgement digital terrestrial broadcasting with program record (Mobile TV) [except SO905iCS].
- Integrated GPS with GPS appli (application) preinstalled [except SH905i]. Also multiple window support so you can write an email while still watching TV.
- Voice translation (spoken words are translated and displayed on screen).
- Support for multiple audio formats including WMA (DRM) which is used in the Napster unlimited music service.
- Flash Lite 3 support (the new version which supports Flash Video amongst other things).
- Biometric security - some devices uses voice, some use a fingerprint sensor, and some use handwriting (symbol) recognition. All the phone also support remote lock (Omakase Lock).
- Extra application can be added via various means such as the Chokkan game service. The phone has built in email (and other types o messaging unique to Japan), browsing and document viewing tools.
- microSD card slot for memory expansion.
D905i (Mitsubishi)
The D905i weighs in at 120g with dimensions of 110 x 49 x 15.5 mm. It has a 3 inch (240 x 400) TFT LCD screen. It has a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus. It has a special feature, highlight, which dynamically examines a video during playack and shows just the interesting scenes by analysing audio volume.
F905i (Fujitsu)
The F905i wirghs in at 138g with dimensions of 108 x 50 x 21 mm. It has a 3.2 inch screen (480 x 864 - referred to as VGA). There's also a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus. It has a swivel screen which rotates 90 degress into landscape mode for optimal TV viewing.
SH905i (Sharp)
This phone weighs in at 125g with dimensions of 112 x 48 x 16.9 mm and has a VGA (480 x 864) screen. There's also a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera on board. Its special feature is support for DOLBY sound and a high quality AQUOS VGA screen for better TV viewing.
SO905i (Sony Ericsson)
The S0905i weighs 134g and has dimensions of 110 x 49 x 19.7mm, there's a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus. Inaddition to WMA support there is support for Sony's ATRAC audio format. The SO905is special feature is the Mobile BRAVIA engine which powers the screen producing high contrast, sharp images. There's also Walkman technology for a better music playback experience and a jogdial for quick and easy operation of the phone.
SO905iCS (Sony Ericsson)
This phone is essentially a digital camera and phone combined which is relfected in it weight (150g), but it still fits into a relatively small package (113 x 50 x 24 mm). The microSD card slot supports HC cards (up to 8GB). The SO905iCS has a 5.1 mega-pixel Cyber-shot digital camera with a 3x optical zoom and a bright LED flash. Focus and brightness are automatically adjusted as you move the camera about and there's built in face recognition. The camera features and quality are comparable with mid range stand alone Cyber-shot digital cameras.
SH905iTV (Sharp)
This is a specialist TV handset and weighs in at 140g with dimensions of 112 x 50 x 18.9 mm. As with the other phones there is a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus. The SH905i uses AQUOS screen technology to optimise the 3.2 inch, 16 million colour, screen for TV viewing. There's also touch sensitive controls (CRUISER pad) for easy device operation.
705i Range
The 705i range may not have the cutting edge hardware of the 905i series, but it has very similar software, and is generally more affordable. There is also a greater emphasis on style and alternative features. While there's no smelly handset this time round there is another water proof handset from Fujitsu. There's also some handset from outside the usual pool (LG Shine and Nokia 6120) which have been customised for the NTT DoCoMo network.
D705iμ (Mitsubishi)
The D705i is a supler slim one piece handset which uses metallic sheet keys and key illumination display to put style first. It has a 1.3 megapixel canera, weighs just 85g and has dimensions of 122 x 47 x 10.3 mm.
D705i (Mitsubishi)
The D705i doesn't have any stand out characteristics though the release notes indicate that up to 10 hours of recorded TV can be stored on its 2GM memory card and that is support simplified dialing (we thinks that speed dialing) of your favourite contacts. It has a 1.3 megapixel canera, weighs 120 g and has dimensions of 110 x 49 x 15.5 mm.
F705i (Fujitsu)
The phone is waterproof and can be use in the shower or the bath. The phone has a Floating Sign display(essentially LEDs hidden in the phone's bodywork) that display the time and incoming call information. It has a 1.3 megapixel camera, weighs 115g and has dimensions of 116 x 49 x 13.8 mm.
SH705i (Sharp)
The 3.2 megapixel camera has advanced image stabilization and the handset support One-segment TV broadcasts which can be watched on its 2.8 inch QVGA screen. It weighs 105 g and has dimensions of 106 x 48 x 15.5 mm.
SO705i (Sony Ericsson)
The SO705i has changeable covers allowing you to customise the phone to your current look. The phone has different illumination patterns (e.g. the phone will glow) and new patterns can be downloaded over the air. It has a 2 megapixel camera, weighs 102g and has dimensions of 105 x 49 x 15.2 mm.
NM705i (Nokia)
The NM705i is a reworked version of the Nokia 6120. It is aimed at the global traveller and is usable in 154 countries. In this version the S60 key is replaced with a menu key.
