The E63 will be available for purchase, unlocked, through www.nokiausa.com, Nokia Flagship stores in Chicago and New York and a number of independent retailers. As of yet there are no carrier announcements.
From the press release:
"Consumers have stated loud and clear that there is a demand for devices with a QWERTY form factor that are optimized for the United States," said Alessandro Lamanna, Vice President of Sales, Retail, Nokia Americas. "Building on the success of the award winning Nokia E71, Nokia E63 brings a fully featured QWERTY smartphone to an entry level pricepoint."
Key points about the phone
- Slab / slate form factor, with landscape QVGA screen and QWERTY keyboard.
- The same 'Switch Mode' feature as the E71 and E66, which allows users to swap between a 'office profile' and a 'personal profile', each of which can have different ho me screens and different email accounts.
- 3G and WiFi connectivity. However this is vanilla 3G (UTMS), with no HSDPA (3.5G) support. In contrast to the European version it operates on US 3G bands (850 Mhz and 1900 Mhz).
- Enhanced Eseries version of Calendar and Contacts, as first seen on the E66 and E71.
- Support for Microsoft Exchange out of the box via Mail for Exchange, also for Microsoft Office via Quickoffice.
- Has a 3.5mm audio jack.
- Includes a subscription to Files on Ovi with 1GB of file space.
- 1500 mAh battery for long usage, stand-by and talk times.
