Ted Talks not playing on N8 (ted.com)

I have absolutely the same problem. Tried both HD and normal video and they do not work (audio plays only). Obviously something was changed in the encoding of the files because before I was able to watch the HD videos without any problems.

After checking the properties of the video files against for example the HD versions of CNET podcasts, I found that the TED videos now use 8 ReFrames agains 1 for CNET podcasts. I suspect that the hardware acceleration of N8 does not work with 9 ReFrames (at least in the current version of the firmware).

EDIT. Ok, I found information that N8 supports up to 4 or 5 ReFrames (reference frames) if CABAC is turned on. The TED videos use 8 ReFreames so that is why they are not playable. The only solution is to hope for firmware update but I am not too hopeful as this may be a hardware restriction that can not be fixed with firmware update.

It's a long time from this post as now Apr 2013 but I had the same query just today. The boring answer is to use the Youtube app and search for "TED XXX" where "XXX" is the subject you are looking for. I just did that with "TED North Korea" and got some interesting results. I'd like to visit there now.
